My 5th great grandfather's grave site is being threatened by development in the Barefoot Landing area of Myrtle Beach. Jeremiah Vereen served under Francis Marion and was a true patriot. Please help by signing the petition to find the grave and preserve it.

My wife is related to
Francis Marion...
The developers should set aside a small patch of land honoring these men and those who died for The Revolution.
A gazebo, for instance, with a plaque would seem appropriate.
On my grandmother’s side I’m supposedly related to Marion as well. Vaught was her last name prior to getting married to my grandfather. We may be kin by some far and removed way.
Too many historical sites are being demolished for ugly housing developments/urban sprawl.

Contact the local DAR and SAR chapters. Your county genealogy society should be able to give you that contact info. The library will have a contact for the genealogy group.

I was just looking at some photos of the resting place of my own 5th great-grandfather, a Revolutionary War soldier from Virginia and a Kentucky pioneer.

Here is another tidbit.
1791 – On April 27, George Washington visited the plantation thinking it was a tavern. Jeremiah Vereen, Sr. once operated a public house on the property, but by the time Washington visited, Jeremiah Vereen, Jr. had made the house a residence. He entertained and fed Washington without any compensation.

My fifth great-granfather—one Thomas Davis—also served under Francis Marion, though he was from Lumberton, NC, not SC. Perhaps he would of known Jeremiah Vereen. I think I found his grave north of Lumberton at an old Church site.
