A technical crew with The Orlando Eye safely evacuated all 66 stranded riders from the East Coasts largest Ferris wheel Friday, an incident that caused the 400-foot attraction to shut down, authorities said.
Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Kathleen Kennedy told The Associated Press no one was hurt following the incident and all were taken off the ride in about three hours with help from numerous firefighters.
Kennedy said the attraction, billed as the largest observation wheel on the East Coast, had initially stopped for more than 45 minutes.

This exact scenario was going through my mind as I did the 550 foot Ferris wheel in Vegas last spring. Fortunately the only thing that happened was two over-priced and watered down drinks ;’)

Could be worse.
At least the wheel didn't try to escape...

I went on the Eye in London....thankfully all was ok and it was a nice experience. I think Orlando Eye will be fine. At the beginning, many things need to be adjusted. They will only learn from this. Thankfully nobody got hurt.

You know, I never feel comfortable on these sort of things. Victims? Don’t be melodramatic. Look down there. Tell me. Would you really feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving forever? If I offered you twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stopped, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money, or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare? Free of income tax, old man. Free of income tax - the only way you can save money nowadays.

At 550 feet, the High Roller ferris wheel in Las Vegas will become the world's tallest as the first passengers step aboard.

"
evacuated all 66 stranded riders" Thank goodness this didn't happen in Detroit, there would have been 122 people injured there....

Did the passengers get charged extra for the longer ride?

heh, the removal of the passengers -caused- the incident:
“A technical crew with The Orlando Eye safely evacuated all 66 stranded riders from the East Coasts largest Ferris wheel Friday, an incident that caused the 400-foot attraction to shut down, authorities said.”
