8-Year-Old Appears to Be Bitten by Shark, Suffers Minor Injuries(NC)

An 8-year-old boy suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon from what appeared to be a small shark bite, according to the Surf City Police Department.

Officials said the incident happened around 12:25 p.m., near 700 South Shore Drive.

Police say the wounds were superficial and the child is expected to be okay. Surf City Police and Pender East EMS responded and provided treatment on scene.

According to the police chief, the victim had what looked like a bite mark on the top of the foot and a puncture wound on the heel. The bite was about 7 inches in diameter.

A man from Charlotte was vacationing at Topsail Island when he heard a child screaming in the water and helped rescue him, according to WBTV. The man said the bite marks on the boy's leg appeared to be from a shark.

The child's parents took the boy to the emergency room for more assessment.

This incident comes ten days after a 12-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were bitten by sharks at Oak Island. They both were taken to the hospital and each had an arm amputated.

There seems to be a lot of shark attacks lately. Obviously it must be racism.

I would get a tan on the beach and swim in the Hotel pool.

Charlotte is a great city but swimming at the beaches is not a good idea this summer.

Flash forward about 70 years and some old man is going to be saying, “In my day, we were bitten by sharks all the time! We didn’t complain! It was just how it was back then!”

Oh? Are they white sharks?

Hawaii? North Carolina? Cape Cod? Martha’s Vinyard? Australia? Florida? California? South Carolina? New Jersey?

Flame away but could we just get a break?

You have a better chance of being a conservative in House leadership than bitten by a shark.

Two stories dominated the news during the summer of 2001. First was the Gary Condit/Chandra Levy story, and the other was an uptick in the reporting of shark attacks. Although 2001 was not statistically different than any other year, it was a slow news summer and the media glommed onto a handful of shark attacks so much so that it became known as, "Summer of the Shark".

Of course, all that changed on September 11.

The last time my husband bitched about all the shark attack coverage some muslims flew planes into the Twin Towers. His entire fire department is begging him to refrain from commenting on the latest shark issues.

I’m heading to the beach this summer and we’re doing exactly that. Swimming pool and sand for us. There is no way my kid is getting in that water. I don’t care how rare shark attacks are and I’ve seen Alex Kintner meet his demise one time many times on the tube.

Charlotte is four hours from the ocean. Honest. I promise.*

*Maybe three and a half if you drive really fast. :)

Spates of shark attacks seem to be harbingers of terrible events. The last episode of attacks preceded 9/11, and the latest attacks presaged the awful 6/26 decision forcing same-sex marriage on the nation. Maybe they’re God’s way of giving America a heads up, and of course America never pays attention.

Now there’s an ex-CIA guy saying that 7/4 is a prime target. Pray for America!
