Happy Summer Solstice!
His Divine Plan ^ | In the Beginning | The Almighty

TOPICS: Astronomy
KEYWORDS: astronomy; solstice; tropicofcancer
The Tropic of Cancer moves south, and the Tropic of Capricorn north, about 50 feet every year, each one approaching the equator. What happens when they meet? Cross?

"When" they meet, we will no longer have seasons, it will be spring all year long. But they never will meet. When they get to about 23 degrees latitude, they will reverse the trend and move away from the equator again.

The Earth is actually approximately 3 million miles FURTHER from the Sun now than it will be 6 months from now.

Already???

I am again in the upper region of the US — the late twilight is as strange to me as the early winter night.

I remember being in Seattle and celebrating the solstice with sunlight until 10:00 PM.

In a few months we will be seeing sunset at 5:00 PM.

Traveling for a living gives one opportunities to see a lot of stuff.

In the southern hemisphere, it’s the shortest day of the year.

I get depressed when we get the short days, but it seems like only yesterday we were in December!

It’s great because the day is so long, it’s bad because it’s the slow march for us to the cold and dark of winter.

That’s why I like the Vernal Equinox better than the Summer Solstice.
It’s halfway to this longest day with three more months of improvement to go.

Actually improvement begins with the winter solstice, the Roman festival of Sol Invictus.

I am well aware of that. If I weren’t I wouldn’t know that the Vernal Equinox was halfway to the Summer Solstice would I?
