Putin playing with his toys. Among the planes he sent out were MIG-31s NATO codename Foxhounds. They have the same air frame as the infamous Mig-25 Foxbat but altered to intercept low flying bombers and strike aircraft. The Foxhounds can still get up to Mach 2.8 not quite Mach 3+ the Foxbat could achieve at the costs of destroying the engines. I guess Putin wanted to bring back some 70s nostalgia.

I read that the Mig-25 had a steel skin because aluminum wouldn’t withstand the heat at Mach 3.
