DAVENPORT --
A 4-year-old boy was killed and a young girl was critically injured when a box truck rear-ended a car at a stoplight in Davenport on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Around 9:15 a.m, a white Toyota was stopped at traffic signal on U.S. 27 at Polo Park Boulevard when a Freightliner truck approached from the behind. The truck driver, Ednaldo Marques, 18, of Winter Garden, was not able to stop, even after using emergency brakes. He ran into the Toyota, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators say the back of the Toyota was pushed into the passenger compartment, where the two young children were seated.
Witnesses rushed to help the trapped family, including Kevin Simmons.

Soft bigotry of low expectations anyone
(This makes the Limbo dance look like a pole vault)
Driving too fast and fiddling with truck computer or cellphone. The Hispanic illegals use cellphones constantly to have someone translate and give directions.
It is NOT the politicians who are responsible for this immigration mess;it IS the good ol’ GREEDY American businessman or woman who cares for NOTHING but the short-term profits. Without AMERICAN employers these people would not be coming here-at least those not being brought as “refugees”.
If only real Americans would shun and not patronize all those who prefer to dump on their fellow citizens,we might see some changes.I’m not holding my breath.
In the old days a businessman who was willing to wrong his community would be quickly and severely wronged by the angry community. A courtesy ride on a rail would be the least painful outcome, compared to alternatives.
Today the community is unable to protect itself from an offender. It cannot do so directly, by a mob with torches and pitchforks, as direct justice of that sort is no longer acceptable. It cannot do so indirectly, as justice is detached from the community and has high cost. The community itself is fragmented. Wrongdoers today don't live within the community that they hurt - they can be anywhere within the country, or even outside of it. All these reasons often mean that the offender cannot be punished by anyone, anywhere. Welcome to the global economy where even a very large community can't do anything to a transnational megacorporation with opaque structure and offshore HQ.
Was in Florida back in March on vacation and was rear-ended on this same stretch of road near Davenport by a Dominos Pizza driver while I was sitting at a red light.
AWFUL drivers down there.
Hey waitaminute we have the worst drivers in the country and dont you forget it!
THANK GOD FOR THAT!
Here I thought politicians were responsible for the border.
Prayers up.
Like to take things out of context much?
Who do you think donates BIG BUCKS to politicians? Hint: it isn’t Joe Sixpack struggling to meet the mortgage payment.
the politicians are really chosen by the big business interests who pour hundreds of millions of $$$$$$ into those pockets with the expectation and promise of greater returns.
If the business people didn’t hire the cheap labor of the illegals ,the illegals would have no incentive to come here.
It is always about the MONEY. Power means you get more money.Follow the money.
I don’t excuse the politicians so much as point out they are doing the bidding of the wealthy, which has pretty much always been the case.ALL the people who care only for cheap and now are running up a bill we will be paying for decades to come.
Again, if the good ol; Murican business DIDN’T HIRE ILLEGALS there wouldn’t be the problem.
And don’t tell me the person doing the hiring doesn’t know EXACTLY who and what they are hiring.
Those big businesses that pretend to be farmers have been some of the worst offenders because they loved cheap labor;those “farmers” provided the incentive for decades until other businesses saw they could do the same thing.
When my husband came to a stop, he witnessed the driver of the tractor running away from the scene and toward a farm. He called the police and they showed up a short time later, as did the farmer. The policeman explained to my husband the farm equipment is exempt from having to possess the standard safety equipment. All calls to the farmer for insurance information were either refused or hung up on. Our insurance had to pay after we paid the deductible and as far as I know, there's never been any subrogation.
As my husband likes to say, the America people need a lobbyist.
