Women highlight horrors of 'drive-by harassment' by targeting men with crude and vulgar come-ons

Many women experience street harassment on a regular basis, but two young women took to YouTube to spotlight a form of harassment even nastier than cat-calling.

Comedians Soojeong Son, who goes by SJ, and Ginny Leise visited a New York City park to demonstrate the practice of drive-by street harassment, which they define as the act of whispering something offensive into the face of a woman who is alone in public, then walking away before there is time for her to react. Only in this case, the women turned the tables, with SJ whispering vulgar things in the ears of unsuspecting men, before quickly taking off, leaving them with little to no time to react.

But did they actually feel harassed? According to the video, most of the men 'loved it'. The clip cuts to each of the men's reactions after SJ walks away, showing them smiling, laughing, and looking confused but grinning.

Comment. They actually expected that they might get punched in the face? I'm not surprised by the reactions at all. I doubt the men felt threatened as a woman might. It doesn't happen often, or at all to men, and probably not as often to women as these women would have us believe. And, the men probably don't live their lives looking for a reason to be offended like these two women do.

Men are not bothered by women coming up to them and indicating they want to have sex with them. (Unless the woman is truly horrible looking).

Now, a woman whispering "I just filed a child support order against you" would get a different reaction.

The people pranking this way are doing it for the innerwebs. Some are doing it on news broadcasts. It isn't a genuine sexual come on. It is a crass prank.

BTW gay men come onto straight men in bathrooms and are a protected class. If you lash out violently at the pervert soliciting for sexual gratification in a washroom, YOU are the hater.

I would add: although most men would not be bothered by a semi-attractive woman coming up and saying "I want to f--- you right here and now", the same words coming from a 250 lbs thuggish-looking man would definitely make the target feel threatened.

But that's an experiment which would be very politically incorrect to perform.

Is it sexist to accept the crass invite from one of these social justice warriors, only to hear her rescind the offer, and then call her a ‘c*cktease’? It is sexist to call her a slut for making the offer in the first place?

Hey FReepers! It would be prudent to remember. These two gals are professional comics. Yes, comedians. I think the intro was a set up for the anticipated punch line.

If I am wrong then they suck as comedians and only stumbled into a humorous outcome. Otherwise, they succeeded in doing something to enhance their comedic careers.

I tried viewing some of their other shame game videos.

Very low volume on the audio, no? I couldn’t even hear what they were saying with the volume all the way up.

From descriptions “microagressions in the workplace”, “(reverse?) street harassment”. It all seems like a bunch of liberal hipster Brooklynese humor but it fails to be funny. Comedy? Fails the first test.

Like many men I've spent a great part of my life waiting to be sexually harassed with limited success.
I've walked into a room full of female coworkers and given the old “is it me or is it hot in here line”, nothing. Someday....
