Berkeley High School officials are investigating what is being called racist remarks in the campus yearbook.
Senior student Robael Gizachew said a page in the new yearbook is offensive. A text describing the Academy of Medicine and Public Service, or AMPS program, replaced the word "innovators" with "trash collators."
"I believe it's racist because they don't expect highly of us," Gizachew said.
Gizachew and his friends said racism is common campus. Students told school staff about the insult on Tuesday, which prompted administrators to recall the yearbooks.
"We've collected most of them back," said Mark Coplan of the Berkeley Unified School District. "We're putting a sticker over with the correct text."
School staff are trying to figure out why changed the words after yearbook was approved for print.
Students said the yearbook incident is a sad way to end the school year.
The district said students will get their yearbooks back next week. School officials said if they are able to pin down who made the change that person will be punished.
The next step will be to send the Yearbook Police door-to-door.
Article was so poorly written as to be almost unintelligible.

Did a two year old or a drunk write this article? Its riddled with mistakes that make it more embarrassing than the ridiculously hypersensitive PC subject matter that is the subject of the story.
That right, put a band-aid on it.
There are no words...
Rob, your homework assignment tonight is a 4 page report on where the trash collator race originated and when it migrated to the US. Include at least 3 footnotes. References from wiki are not allowed. Yes, that's 2 sheets front and back, single spaced, use an ink pen and in cursive. Penmanship will count toward your grade.
Jean, have your editor proof your work before it goes to print.
Gee, I wonder why? They certainly don't expect proper grammar, do they.
His decision to quit meth came too late.
This is local TV gerbalism at its best.
“Are you a flunked-out junior college journalism student? Well we have the job for you! Come on down to your local TV station.”
It’s about as racist to disparage trash collectors—or collators.
I call complete and utter bullsh!t. Yearbooks are created on software developed for publishing yearbooks. All one would have to do is look at the metadata on the file that holds the page in question. It will list the last time and date along with user id of when it was saved. Not rocket science at all.
I’m guessing the kids were part of some volunteer recycling program... hence collating trash.

hahaha. People who buy yearbooks “deserve” a visit from the yearbook police.
