Millions of flies are invading one Minnesota neighborhood, and nothing his being done. Officials say one farmer is responsible for the infestation.
"We've been getting these flies like this. They're all over the car, they're all over the house, they're in our full barn, they're in our patio by the billions," Tom Hanson said.
Hanson says it started thanks to their neighbor across the street who owns the property, but doesn't normally live there.
"The gentleman across the road has been dumping this stuff since last winter and he has no intention of cleaning it up. He doesn't care what we have to live through," Hanson said.
The fly invasion is also starting to get inside the house.
"We're feeling we're going to get more and more as the year goes on if something isn't done," Hanson said.
But officials with Isanti County are taking action. An inspection was done about six weeks ago, and officials found much more than just manure dumped on the farm by the owner.
"It looked like a landfill. It was pretty much loaded with household garbage, plastic containers, milk jugs, it was yogurt containers. So there's some issues there," Holly Nelson with Isanti County Zoning said.
Nelson says Isanti County zoning, Minnesota Pollution Control, and the Department of Health are investigating whether there could be violations on the owners part with the solid waste ordinance or public nuisance citations.
When 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS asked Nelson whether there's any plans to help the affected neighbors with spraying, Nelson said, "That's something that we're looking at."
"We've been trying to contact the city if we can do some kind of spraying, they say they can't right now. But if they just sprayed it, it'd probably solve a lot of things," Nelson said.
Female flies can lay 500 to 1,000 eggs, leaving Hanson to wonder how much worse will it get.
"There's just nothing you can do outside, it's ruined our summer," Hanson said.
Isanti County officials say it'll take at least another week before a decision is made on citations for the farmer or assistance to the affected homeowners.
The farmer at the center of this couldn't be reached for comment.
any spiders reading this news must flocking there.
I noticed that this person wants ‘the government’ to do something about the problem. If he knows what the problem is why doesn’t he and the neighbors go spray the place. It’s just another form of SSS.
This READS like it is a satirical article from The Onion........

Is Obama in town? He attracts them.

Have you seen my profile page here?
I always envision the very next photo that would be taken a 1/2 second later would be of an EXPLOSION of little Styrofoam pellets EVERYWHERE. She assured me that did not happen. Yeah, whatever! In my mind I know it did... and it was hilarious!
Okay - was just wondering. That’s a real out of the way place on the road to practically nowhere. :)
