I remember the days when these cruise ships were referred to as “love boats”. Times have really changed.
Seems to happen a lot on these ships with dodgy crewmen. My mum almost had this happen to her at 14 when she was on a ship to Germany. This is probably what happened to that woman who went missing on that Disney cruise to. Its the perfect place for a sexual predator to victimise somebody and then dispose of the evidence.

Cruise ships now employ a LARGE contingent of “immigrant” labor. They laborers are stuck on the ships for months at a time and their backgrounds are often sketchy or non-existent. You pays your money, you takes your changes.

Wow, pics at the link are horrific. Thing most people don’t realize is when your on one of those ships your not in the US anymore. Most crew members are foreign and many don’t even speak English. Can’t believe this guy thought he was gonna be able to get away with it.
Anyone that does this kind of thing should NEVER have the chance to be in civilized society again. Personally, I’d like to see him executed because his intention was to kill her and it’s only a miracle she didn’t die.
I went on a cruise last year. Anecdotal evidence is that there were no Americans working on the ship. Most appeared to be from Eastern European countries or the Philippines.
Are Americans even allowed to apply for jobs on a cruise ship? This is a serious question. The cruise I was on went from Seattle to ports of call in Alaska. It was hard to believe that a cruise from one part of America to another had no Americans on the crew.
You have to dig pretty deep to find out this was a nude cruise and the perp claimed the victim ‘insulted’ him.
That and other details are just too creepy.
I realize a cruise ship is relatively safe, except for your old drunks and horny cougars.
But one security guard on duty on a vessel that large?

The visual of her injuries are lawyers’ wet dreams. However, thank God that there doesn’t appear to be any permanent physical injuries, and her biggest challenge long term will be the mental anguish of the attempted rape and physical abuse.
On a cerebral level, taking a step back, does she deserve the combined $415 Million she’s asking? Can someone say “lottery” in terms of such obscene amounts? When I saw that, I immediately saw my sympathy for her plummet. Especially since the main guilty party is the crew member, and the worst that the company did was to not think through their processes. $415 Million for that? Capitalism is being destroyed one lawsuit at a time.
I went over to Europe for the summer on a Holland American line cruiser when I was a teenager, back in the 1950s. That particular boat was loaded with young people, and crewed and served by Indonesians.
There were no such problems like this one. The Indonesians did a great job, kind of like having a hundred Jeeves. And they served Heineken’s beer at the bar and at dinner—my first taste of anything beyond Pabst or Bud. Altogether, it was a great experience.
I’m sorry to hear about this business. Very sad, and it certainly won’t do any good for the line’s reputation.
