The Mysterious Number of American Citizens
Politico ^ | June 02, 2015 | Nathan Persily

Many Americans believe that someone, somewhere in Washington, must be in charge of tracking who is and who isn’t a citizen of the United States. Apparently, so does the U.S. Supreme Court, which just accepted a voting rights case that turns on the government’s ability to count the number of citizens in each voting district. But despite all the talk these days about government and Big Data, the justices, like the rest of us, might be surprised to learn that the most basic information as to who is an American citizen cannot actually be found in any publicly available government data set — anywhere.

Interesting article, but of course there's the fact that these are state districts, each state should be free to make it's own decisions.

The left want’s it both ways. They want illegals to be allowed to vote without having to present identification, but they want only registered voters to be counted for congressional district allocations. It’s obvious that there are more illegals who reside in the US than there are those that illegally vote, too. (It’s still illegal for them to vote, even in states that allow voting without identification.)

Sure, but data isn't important, only idealogy and agenda.

Actually the left wants to count the illegals as population when creating districts. They also want them to vote, but they can’t have more votes than population, unless we are talking about Philadelphia.

Of course, this is all ON PURPOSE, you know.

126% of eligible voters voting in districts, and HUGE numbers of UNREGISTERED democrats appearing like magic when needed on Soros’s busses.

With no records—NOTHING can be ‘proved’.

“Ssaalll good” don’cha know.

the key:
number of votes from a district equal to the number of REGISTERED voters... or the sheer number of PEOPLE?

common sense would say it can only be registered voters. yet we typically see districts with 140% turnout and no one is investigated for voter fraud

the reason:
no id checks to vote and voting fraud. either illegals or multiple votes being cast by the same citizen

if i could go to jail for doing 65 in a 55... people should go to jail for voter fraud.

“...might be surprised to learn that the most basic information as to who is an American citizen cannot actually be found in any publicly available government data set — anywhere.”

This nonsense must be the beginning rationale to make an argument for wholesale amnesty. The data has historically arisen from the local level in each state.

Citizens are counted in the census. Not illegals or legals. We don’t how many people are in America, but we know how many Americans there are.

Correct, but the point of the article isn't citizens, it's voters. The Census doesn't count registered voters. The idea put forth by the lawsuit is that the state districts should be drawn according to voters, not citizens/people. (As each district is supposed to hold a near-equivalent amount of people.)

Nope. If you actually read the article, it has nothing to do with amnesty. It's about a Supreme Court case about how states draw their districts, being as how districts are required to be about the same population size since the 1960s. Now the argument is whether the equal population should be based on citizens, total people, just voters, or if the US should butt out of how the state draws it's lines.

No, my point was they would use that argument to segue into other areas, such as amnesty.

Well, it’s good that the government doesn’t know this. They don’t hand out citizenship to us, in most cases. It’s a birthright, and we still don’t have to ask the government for permission to be born, thank God.
