You can see some classic handguns that were turned in in the picture above. A 1911 type with what an early green Teflon type finish. It is probably worth about $500. The finish was a custom job popular in the 1980's and later. There are two classic Colt revolvers that seem to be in excellent condition. One is a Detective Special, the other, an early Officers Model. They are worth about $600 and $1,200 respectively, far more than the $100 gift card that was received. It is hard to say what other treasures there might be under the jumble of inexpensive imports from the 1960's. I see at least one decent Smith & Wesson.

In my expiernce cops got the best weed and the good iron went home with the head cop on duty
friend worked for TSA said managers took the best knives and other items confiscated, said there was ZERO control over what was confiscated and what was documented.it all went into a bin that only they had access to
Further down in the article/post, Dean clarifies that in Cali, NO, you can’t set up a table down the street. Nu uh, no way. That will surely stop the bad guys from ever, ever, ever, getting a firearm. Guess all the bad guys are packin’ up and movin’ out of Cali. NOT!
Kinda like fireworks in Massachusetts.
Who has the best fireworks in town? The Cops.
Private buyers are not allowed in California. Part of their “Universal Background Check” “10 day waiting period” “Registration required” “No open carry” regulatory scheme.
Saw where you clarified it further down in the piece.
The government cheating widows again.
I think elderly widows are the most likely to turn over valuable guns.”I just never really liked it in the house ,and now he’s gone...”Never mind the value;it is all about FEELINGSSSS
The cops should sell the guns on the open market (with their sacred background check of course) and use the profits to fund more gun “buybacks”. That way, stupid people will be relieved of their scary guns, and good firearms will be saved.
That’s a win-win situation.
With that attitude they deserve to be cheated.
“Los Angeles Gun Turn In ‘buy back’ Cheats Many Innocents”
There are no innocents at a government gun ‘buy back’, just
morons and fools. If they get jacked they deserve it.
The Officer’s Model looks to me to be the heavy barrel version, so it would be later production (late 30’s to the 40’s)
Sigh
I want that Colt snubbie.
I had one, right size and 6 rounds. Stupidly sold it...
My dad has a sweet 70s vintage that he carried in a Bianchi upside down rig when he was on Governors duty in plain cloths.
Be nice to him... ;)
It would get a little complicated. There are no private, no-doc transfers in the People’s Republik of Kali, but I guess you could haggle and agree on a price, with the transfer to occur later through a FFL. That’s what people have to do now to sell guns to another individual (assuming they’d rather jump through the hoops than move to a free state). Can’t imagine how it could be illegal to do the same thing near the entrance to the “buy back”.
I was going by the adjustable front and rear sights. What does that say about it? My father had one just like it.
I guess “early” is a bit subjective.
Always glad to read your expert opinion, you have wonderful knowledge to draw on.
“Cant imagine how it could be illegal to do the same thing near the entrance to the buy back.”
I think you are technically correct, but the transaction costs become so high as to make the transactions virtually untenable.
There are also the risks of engaging in an activity that is discouraged by the “authorities” in a jurisdiction known nationwide for its extralegal punishments.
The sights didn’t change during the run. The Barrel profile did in the late 30’s. I had a 1938 that had the heavy barrel and the sights were identical to a NIB 1923 (unfired) I have now.
Thank you for your kind words. You’re threads are greatly appreciated here.
