A Utah man is suing the local police force after one of its dogs attacked him during an arrest, after he had put his hands up and surrendered.
Martin Lee Hoogveldt, 33, had already given himself up after armed police entered his home in response to a disturbing-the-peace complaint in 2013, but the dog still jumped at him,clamping its jaws around his face.
The dog handler's body camera captured the horrific attack, and can be seen struggling to get the dog, a German shepherd called Pyro, to let go of Hoogveldt's face.

I'm finding increasingly difficult to support law enforcement...
A friend is fond of saying that no problem is so bad that it can’t be made worse by calling the police. When I was a kid they seemed like just nice guys in uniform. Now they’re scary even in normal situations. It’s as if they now see the world as us vs. them. They don’t identify with civilians anymore. Not the ones I’ve met in the last few years.
Never understood the tears shed for police dogs when some perp plugs one.
just glad he was not black. all 20 blacks in Utah would start some crap.

I live near a small town, the cops know me and I know them. They are quite friendly and let people skate on things that a Dallas pig would not.
Kinda silly to expect a dog to not attack when the perp puts his hands up.
Although it does sound like the dog wasn’t properly controlled.
Good thing he wasn’t watering his lawn during a watering ban or he’d be dead.
Three cops with guns and a K-9 to take down a guy who burned a Christmas tree in his own yard?? Then, they tasered him too?

These officers are grade-A assholes.
Not only does the handler not have control of his weapon, it attacked the man with command or provocation and continued attacking, with the idiot unable to control his weapon and that weapon had to be physically restrained and forcefully pulled of the man.
Then, just to top it off, the cops smack the guy in the face with a heavy wooden chair.
I say fire all three and that dog needs to be destroyed.
For the life of me I don’t understand why the cop didn’t shoot the fanged weapon.
They sure don’t have any qualms about executing other peoples dogs.
But the dude would still have a face if he simply got off the couch when asked to by the officer...
I think I counted the cop asking him at least three times with the caveat of the dog will make him...
I guess the multi-million dollar settlement the good citizens of West Jordan will end up paying him will cover the disturbing the peace citation. How rude of him to attack the K-9 with his face.
I’d want the dog Pyro put down and his handler charged with aggravated assault. He took effing trophy pictures to use to backup the lies he was going to put in his report. He even allowed Pyro to further attack while the victim was cuffed and on his stomach. Guess he didn’t have time to destroy the body cam footage.
I hope he does get millions.
The fanged weapon continued to attack the guy while the other jack booted thugs were attempting to cuff him.
They zero control over that dog and callously disregarded the mans injuries, which should have never happened.
I suppose once the new EPA regulations go into effect, cops will show up and shoot us or let their dogs maul us if our barbeque grills emit too much flame and smoke. Well, I always said I’d die with a spatula in my hand.
