There may be advantages to keeping a limited constitutional monarchy where it has deep historical roots, but I think that Britain would do best these days to make her monarchy a mostly ceremonial one, as is the case elsewhere in Europe. It seems to me that the sins and crimes of other contemporary monarchs do nothing to detract from my side of this argument.

For what it is worth, my mother's parents were born in Ireland when it was a part of Britain, and I had a great uncle who died on the Somme in 1916 as a volunteer in the British army. This too seems to me to be of no consequence except as a matter of genealogy. For good or ill, I am utterly and completely American.

Since you live outside of the British realm your opinion is pointless . Do you complain about other existing monarchies?
