Why Do Women Wear Makeup?

Posted on 05/01/2015 7:21:55 AM PDT by newb2012

I have always wondered what makes a woman feel beautiful and comfortable stepping out of their homes only after wearing their makeup, most of them despite having flawless and beautiful skin and features. As silly as it sounds, I have always been intrigued by this. Guys, you can have all the fun you want with your comments but I’m really looking to see the girls’ perspective on this.

My wife doesn't. No makeup, no jewelry, no fancy clothes.

Shes not trying to sell herself to anyone, and I like it that way.

Think of it like an arms race. The other ladies are doing it, so they have to do it too, just to keep up.

Though my wife is a beautician, she does not wear make-up and looks great.

You are correct. They don’t do it just to look attractive to men.

Well, sometimes a girl just has to try and look better.

In Hillary’s case that gallon of wrinkle tightener and follow-up veneer spackle is key.

Because men talk bad about other men that wear it. ;-)

Because, without it I hear people saying “you look about 15,” and that’s a recent upgrade from “you look around 12.”

Besides that, I’m a blonde; light brows and lashes need a little help.

A fair question.

I love makeup. I enjoy shopping for it, applying it, and wearing it. That doesn’t mean I load it on with a trowel; I know how to apply it properly.

It’s fun to sit down in front of the mirror and put it on...it’s kind of starting out with a blank canvas and making things come to life.

No matter how good a woman looks, makeup serves to conceal flaws-—and every female has them-—and to accent her good features.

If it doesn’t sag, bag, wrinkle or bulge, highlight it!

This causes stress in my family. As my wife gets older, it takes much longer to get ready to go somewhere. After she leaves in the morning, I often get a text message asking if the curling iron was unplugged. The bills are mounting for all of the "snake oil" cosmetic oinments and creams now.

I would not think any worse if she wore absolutely NO makeup.

I'm just glad she never got any tattoos.

Putting on makeup is your smile to the world. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but just enough to give me some color and even out the skin tone. I’m not a knockout but I can show the world that I want them to see the best of me.

There will come a day when you will cherish those remarks.

They always have, and nothing has ever been able to make them stop.

It is one of those female things.

I asked a similar question in college, specifically around the wall-to-wall ear-to-ear foundation crème makeup that (supposedly) matched their natural skin coloring. I was told (by some Mary Kay aficionados) that they needed to apply it in order to protect their skin from pollution and other harsh airborne elements. They claimed that if they didn't, they would age prematurely.

When I pointed out to them that they were wearing sleeveless blouses, and that they weren't wearing foundation over their arms and other exposed skin, they didn't have an answer :)
