WYOMING, MINN. A Minnesota city is suing six makers of sanitary wipes, saying the "so-called flushable wipes" are clogging sewer systems.

The federal lawsuit filed Thursday by the city of Wyoming seeks class-action status.

According to the Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1HxHs1z ), the lawsuit says flushable wipes stay intact long enough to pass into sewer lines and wastewater treatment plants, resulting in thousands, or possibly millions, of dollars of damages.

Hey, they’re advertised as flushable, and they do flush. After that, who cares?

Kimberly-Clark is one company named in the lawsuit. In an email to the newspaper before the lawsuit was filed, the company said it's invested in developing technologies that deliver wipes that are truly compatible with wastewater systems.

What legal genius cleared that statement?

That will not help them in court?

” it's invested in developing technologies that deliver wipes that are truly compatible with wastewater systems.”

Implies the ‘flush-able’ wipe they now have are not “truly compatible” with sewer systems.

“Hey, they’re advertised as flushable, and they do flush.”

In the strict definition of “flush” which means they clear the toilet, they are flushable.

But, parsing definition of flush is not going to win in court.

When you buy a “flush toilet” it only guarantees that the poop will flush out of the toilet, it does not guarantee that the poop will move successfully through the sewer system.

To misquote a former Chief Executive, it depends on what the meaning of “flush” is

The guarantee is based based upon the thought that water runs down hill. Or in this case that the poop will successfully make it to the treatment plant. Just as an FYI, whole turds never make it to the plant. They disenigrate by tumbling through the pipes and liquid. Visit your local plant and ask to see the stuff they screen out. Also ask them about the money they find.

Ten minutes prior to seeing your post, I told my son about my trip to a sewage treatment class in college.

A small building I worked in was plagued with clogged sewer pipes for awhile. Plumbers kept finding lots of paper towels that some idiot was flushing. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone on a cleaning staff that was just really lazy.

Our family, one branch or another, has during my lifetime owned a construction company building those plants and modifying them.

Not a very flash business, but lots of $$s tied up in waste disposal.

The plants are interesting if you have a good guide.

Then why haven’t they sued tampon makers, they clog lines too. Some TP’s don’t work in septic systems either especially the recycled rough as a Sears Roebuck page.

What about unused script pills that are flushed? Navy base won’t take a wrong script back.

Test the water downriver of most treatment plants and you will see Columbia's Finest (among other things) in surprising concentrations.

Which is why I haul the crap down to my former local family pharmacy of 30 yrs to be disposed of correctly.

When we were DOD MANDATED in 4/14, we either use Base or Express Scripts for daily meds, we knew their would be wrong script issues, and once they hand it to you they will not take it back.

I make them check mine at the Base before I accept them. Especially my Synthroid. If it is light grey, it is correct. If it is brown it’s the CRAP generic that has 30% less hormone in it. (Generics DO NOT have to meet the same medical value as the name brand.) Had to make them return a script last Tue as all they had was a generic I can’t take. I then took the script down to my local family pharmacy and had filled.

They can’t even take your BP at the Base, had a med reaction that caused my heart rate and BP to cause chest pain and nearly pass out, had to drive 2 blocks to my local family pharmacy to have it done. Once the pain pills kicked in, BP went back down enough so I could drive home. I wasn’t about to call for an ambulance when all I needed was to get the pain under control.
