Apple today released OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 which includes the new Photos app and improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.

With Photos you can:
• Browse your photos by time and location in Moments, Collections, and Years views
• Navigate your library using convenient Photos, Shared, Albums, and Projects tabs
• Store all of your photos and videos in iCloud Photo Library in their original format and in full resolution
• Access your photos and videos stored in iCloud Photo Library from your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iCloud.com with your web browser
• Perfect your photos with powerful and easy-to-use editing tools that optimize with a single click or slider, or allow precise adjustments with detailed controls
• Create professional-quality photo books with simplified bookmaking tools, new Apple-designed themes, and new square book formats
• Purchase prints in new square and panoramic sizes

It’s easy to upgrade your iPhoto library to Photos – just open the app to get started. To learn more about Photos, visit: https://www.apple.com/osx/photos/

This update also includes the following improvements:
• Adds over 300 new Emoji characters
• Adds Spotlight suggestions to Look Up
• Prevents Safari from saving website favicon URLs used in Private Browsing
• Improves stability and security in Safari
• Improves Wi-Fi performance and connectivity in various usage scenarios
• Improves compatibility with captive Wi-Fi network environments
• Fixes an issue that might cause Bluetooth devices to disconnect
• Improves screen sharing reliability

Enterprise content
For enterprise customers, this update includes the following:

• Addresses an issue that could cause Macs bound to an Active Directory server to become unresponsive at startup
• Provides the ability to set a umask that’s respected by GUI apps
• Fixes an issue installing a configuration profile for 802.1x with EAP-TLS
• Resolves an issue where folders from a DFS share point might “disappear” when viewed from the Finder on some Macs

Security Content
For detailed information about the security content of this update, see Apple security updates.

How to update your Mac
1. You should back up your Mac before installation. To do this you can use Time Machine.
2. Use the Updates pane of the Mac App Store to check for the latest Apple software updates, including this update.
3. Other software updates available for your computer might appear, which you should install. Some updates might need to be installed before other updates appear.
4. Don’t interrupt the installation process once you’ve started to update your system.
5. You might experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you’ve modified the operating system through other means.

You can also download the manual installer for this update. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once. Manual installers are available from Apple Support Downloads.

You just can’t convince some people that More Cowbell is not necessarily a good thing. Thus they STILL feel the need to “upgrade” their metrosexual Glorified Terminals.

Maybe someone should take their crayons away. :)

Hi Swordmaker,

> Addresses an issue that could cause Macs bound to an Active Directory server to become unresponsive at startup

Hot damn, I've seen that happen (or at least, a user reported it). Nice to have it fixed.

Tonight my iPhone updated to 8.3.

And Safari on my Mavericks Mini just updated (probably the same fixes as in this Yosemite update).

Busy night at the old Software Update.

Can't wait for Patch Tuesday and all my Win7 machines start nagging me... and that's just at home. LOL

> ...heir metrosexual Glorified Terminals...

You know, you guys who constantly associate Apple products with kinky sex really ought to talk to somebody professional about that.

It's just not healthy.

Normal people view technological devices as tools. They may be much-loved tools, but you know, I've always appreciated my drill press too. But it's just a tool.

That's different from seeing sexuality -- especially homosexual or metrosexual sexuality -- in a neutral object like a phone or tablet.

Even a computer is just a neutral object.

Well, maybe not -all- computers.

Salamander has a computer that's definitely sexy. If you ask nice, maybe she'll show it to you.

Now, In my book, THAT is a technological device with sexual overtones. And that's Alienware, not Apple.

The others? Face it, fella, they're just phones and tablets.

> ...More Cowbell is not necessarily a good thing.

And you're just wrong about that. More Cowbell is always a good thing. :)

Wow, like moths drawn to the light Apple haters are drawn to threads on Apple related subjects where they feel absolutely compelled to post comments that attack the subject and/or users of Apple products themselves. I'm glad that when I read a PC or Windows related thread I don't have a similar need to irrationally attack PCs, Windows and their users. I guess the need to make strange comments is driven by Apple Derangement Syndrome afflicting some posters.

Thanks for the smile, and a chuckle here and there. Always good to see a humorous response to an honest observation.

Glorified Terminals have their places as well in the computer world, I must admit. Nice to know the Atari 2600’s of the computer world are still finding some useage out there.

Then again, I could always dig up that old 486DX4-120 and do more than simple terminal work and PrintShop functions.

*grin*

I am no MS fanboi either, as I prefer Linux (*cough* OS-10 is a ‘nix derivative *cough*) but the ‘doze people always seem to be the Calm Conservatives of the computer world, while the macophiles always seem to be the Ferguson Rioters instead.

Make one disparaging remark about their Holy OS and the spittle-flying rage is a hilarious thing to see.

Makes for an interesting evening now and again. *laugh*

Oh, and we will have to disagree about the More Cowbell beliefs.

Although the SNL skit was hilarious. *grin*

Project much? Maybe you are just gay. Nothing wrong with that if you are with the gaystoppo. You protest too much. Maybe you can tell us how you really feel. You are only about feelings aren't you?

Fud Packer BTTT.

Thanks Swordmaker for the ping.

Yeah, I'm mainly a Unix-head myself, though I have a foot in each camp: Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac... and a few minor ones. I have many feet. I love 'em all and I hate 'em all, depending...

Don't know if you heard, I started up an FR Windows Ping List, for technical topics regarding Windows of all editions including Server, and related topics like WinPhone and the Surface slabs. Welcome to join if you want, lemme know. (I think Swordmaker will forgive me for plugging the WPL on one of his threads.)

> we will have to disagree about the More Cowbell beliefs

No problem. Agreeing to disagree is one of the hallmarks of an intelligent exchange. :)

Liberace is going to be the name of the next OSX. After Liberace will come other gay icons like Barry Manilow, Elton John and Barack Obama

May God have mercy on us. Not gay men. How about women who like gay men?

I'm holding out for "Cher".

Failing that, I'll take "Liz Taylor" or "Liza Minelli".

But "Cher" -- now there's a perfect name for an operating system.

Yes? What is your point? Cook should be removed, however that does not negate this is a system upgrade. Is a system upgrade homosexual?
