Brilliant rant. Heard something like this from a caller on the Mark Levin radio show several months ago. Spot-on! :-)
Good article regarding sports obsessions. Why do so many people identify with a pro ball team that has no actual connection to them? The pro’s play for the highest bidder, period. Loyal to their fans? Don’t make me laugh. It’s only a ball game, don’t be downhearted for days that “your team” lost.
But wait, it gets worse. I attended a social reunion and listened to a bunch of seventy-somethings brag about the ball teams of their respective alma maters. Really? You have been out of college for 50 years and yet that remains the strongest self-identity that you share with others on this special occasion? Was college the highlight of your life? Has nothing more important transcended it since? Wow!
I know people have to talk about something, but sports is so trivial compared to life.
