Jeb Bush as Inevitable Choice? Republicans Say Not So Fast
nytimes ^ | April 4, 2015 | NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and MAGGIE HABERMAN

Three months into what allies once confidently described as a “shock and awe” drive to overcome his rivals and dominate the Republican presidential field, Jeb Bush’s early campaigning looks like the juggernaut that wasn’t.

He is grappling with the Republican Party’s prickly and demanding ideological blocs, particularly evangelical leaders and pro-Israel hawks. He is struggling to win over grass-roots activists in Iowa and New Hampshire, states he has visited only a handful of times. And Mr. Bush’s undisputed advantage — the millions of dollars streaming rapidly into his political organization — may not be enough to knock out other contenders.

For all the Republican “bundlers” who have signed up to raise money for Mr. Bush, others remain uncommitted or are hedging their bets by aiding more than one candidate. Some are privately chafing at what they view as the Bush camp’s presumption of their loyalty.

Other wealthy donors, mindful of their power to reshape the Republican race with “super PAC” donations, have been more direct: The casino magnate Sheldon Adelson recently made what two people briefed on it described as an “animated” call to one of Mr. Bush’s top supporters after former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, a Bush adviser, criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel in a speech in March.

I hope the Republican Party noticed that after millions of conservatives stayed home and did not vote in the last couple of Presidential elections, that nominating another McCain or Romney (or Dole for that matter) will bring about another losing effort.

2016 is still a ways off, will GOP establishment listen or will we conservatives be either forced to hold our noses and vote or stay home on Election Day?

No Jeb Bush, and no more RINOS! Period!

Jethro isn't in it to be President.

Jethro is in it to make sure we don't have President Cruz.

Bush will be dead in the water by the end of this summer.

He’s proof that they (GOPe and Dems) really only care about having an Oligarchy.

What good is an RNC Leader, Rience Priebus, who hasn’t even noticed that a Republican has declared for the Presidency????

Imagine if Joe Manchin declared for the RAT nomination and nobody in the party noticed or commented?

America is finished with Bushes.

Cruz, or lose, in 2016.

Cruz, or lose, in 2016.

I like Ted Cruz too, but why narrow your choice down to one candidate this early.

I don’t see anyone else who meshes with my views as completely as Ted.

Walker is a close second, and I always have room in my heart for Sarah Palin.

The rest of the GOP field is useless.

But the GOP better get it through their Uniparty heads, the Republican candidate is not going to be Jeb Bush.

Wouldn’t be prudent.

All the money in the world will not help you if there is no grass roots support for you.

Jeb Bush only has a core of about 10,000 multimillionaires and billionaires backing him. As well as the Republican leadership, who really need to retire.

But they are going to have to do all the heavy lifting. In past, they counted on at least matching funds from the rank and file Republicans and conservatives. But this time, all the good money his cronies throw at him will be wasted, without any buffer from the grassroots.

They lost a lot of money on Dole, and then on McCain, and then on Romney. Eventually the light is going to dawn on these moneybags that they are backing turkeys. So if they want to get anything out of the deal, they are going to have to at least permit a conservative candidate on a more level playing field.

He won’t be in their pocket, but just by doing the right thing he will create a far better business climate. Sure, they would prefer that government just give them free money, but that is not in the cards.

Like McCain, and Romney, JEB will have to chose a conservative running mate (everyone thought Ryan was conservative at that time) to have any chance whatsoever to bring out the base. If he chose Cruz, would he accept? If he did, could he solidify enough of the base to help Bush thereby setting himself up as the candidate in 2024? Personally, I will stay home, but I am in California so it doesn’t matter.

It sure is an interesting strategy i.e. groin kicking so many millions of people he needs support from to win and doing so on issue after issue. Why doesn’t he run as a Democrat?

I don’t think he’d ask Cruz. He’d ask Walker.

I would hope Cruz would say no. But I doubt that Walker would say no.

We don’t need Jeb Bush if Hillary Clinton is already on the ballot. They will just split the Democrat vote.

Remember the good ol' days of 2008, when McCain would take time out from his busy campaign schedule to launch at least one insult toward conservatives every day?

In a few words, we conservatives are tired of throwing away our support and votes on GOP establishment liberal pricks.

Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson has a pretty good record of betting on losers. First Gingrich, then Romney, now Jeb. Maybe he is learning something now . . .
