This project represents the single largest investment in size and scope that Bass Pro Shops has ever made outside of its national headquarters in Missouri. With an array of retail, educational and fun attractions for guests of all ages, the experience is much more than a store; it's a deeply engaging, one-of-a-kind adventure. In addition to vast assortments of outdoor gear, the new destination experience will include wilderness hotel Big Cypress Lodge, 600,000 gallons of water features; a cypress swamp with 100-foot-tall trees; the interactive Ducks Unlimited Waterfowling Heritage Center; and a breathtaking glass-floored cantilevering observation deck at the top of the 32-story steel pyramid.
The iconic experience is poised to become a must-see experience for outdoor lovers and families from across the country beginning April 29.

breathtaking glass-floored cantilevering observation deck Um... no.
Not for me. I'm glad that some like it, but just no. Not even if I knew the engineers.

That would tend to freak me out too.

Some folks love it. More power to them. Not for me. The 5 feet I fell back in 2009 required me to learn to walk again and dang near killed me.
I don't like high curbs these days. ;)

Looks like they’ll probably have everything under the sun except .22 LR ammo. So, then, what good is all that flash and dazzle? All hat and no cattle.

Good for them.
Ugly building for a *back-to-nature* experience. Reminds me of.....
Me? I'd prefer the real deal.

What the Hell does a pyramid have to do with bass fishing? Looks stupid.

“Never been to Memphis, huh?”
Nope. Is the pyramid a play on the name?

Nope, it is the structural centerpiece of downtown. If you google up any picture of the Memphis skyline, you’ll see it along the river. Agree , an out of place sort of structure until you think about the history of the name “Memphis.”

Educate me a bit. What is the pyramid structure, gov’t, private, etc. And what
does the name ‘Memphis’ mean. Is it some reference to the Indian heritage? I've
been in the Memphis area a couple of times but it's been many years ago. Thanks.

Disregard my ignorance regarding who owns the sturcture.
I wasn’t paying attention to what I was reading. Thanks...

This site will be a great place to visit and spend a day. It will be well stocked and managed. The fly in the ointment is the location. The local Obama voting community are licking their lips looking forward to the tourists that they can hijack and rob. Once several of the patrons are robbed, beaten, and raped and the publicity gets out, the endeavor will be financially crushed.

Acoustics in the Pyramid sucked, going to a concert there was dreadful, and it was never fitted with ice hockey capability, so it was a boondoggle for the city.
If you visit, stay off the streets with the names of states. They are the most dangerous, say a rank of ten, while the rest are eight and half or nine

Pretty obvious why the Mall of Memphis collapsed. Towards the end they had to put security on top of the Mall to watch the criminals in the parking lot and then had several security guards patrol the parking lots. Even then, the chances of being robbed or mugged were still high. I guess the last time I was there was in the early 1990’s and I didn't feel safe there at dusk, I'd hate to have been there at dark. The skaters that traveled from out of town were also in fear of their safety. The Mid South Fair had to move out of Memphis due to the crime also. There was an out and out gang war in the parking lot and many of the residents of this town were there caught in the crossfire. The MSM of Memphis and MPD kept the incident not reported in fear of causing loss of revenue to the Mid South Fair. However, many observers had their stories printed in surrounding newspapers.
I participated in the last Tattoo that was held in the Pyramid and even stalled my horses in the basement of the Pyramid. We rode from the Pyramid to Beale Street on horseback and went all over there on horseback. That was 1992 but I wouldn't do it again.
