The change comes as McDonalds faces protests over pay and labor practices at its restaurants. [ ]
Starting in July, the company says wages will be a dollar more than the local minimum wage.

...”in an improving economy” (BS FLAG GOES HERE!) ...
why do AP and NYT articles so often lead with obvious propaganda ? in the old days they had the decency to wait until the second or third paragraph before inserting their lies
“in an improving economy.”
On what planet?
Great. So we’ll be paying even more for low-quality, barely digestible food, slung through with the worst customer service known to man? Got it.
Planet LibUtopia, evidently. Which AFAIK is a rogue planet.
McDonalds “food” prices are already higher than that of their competitors.. The “quality” is lower. This is reflected in their poor sales numbers lately.
This won’t help them. It will likely hurt them when they bump menu prices again.
Good. More costs to add to their disappearing bottom line. Would you like plastic with your fries?
No one is forcing you to patronize their restaurants. I worked over 15 years in restaurants as everything from a busboy to an executive chef. I avoided corporate chain restaurants after working for a few because I didn’t like their business model. For the most part, I don’t eat at chains because I don’t want to support them. I want my money to go to independently owned restaurants where it is evident that the food isn’t made in a factory somewhere.
I realize that in many places in America, it’s not easy to avoid chains, and I’m not stridently anti-corporate. I just don’t want to eat at places like Olive Garden where you’re being served what is essentially a premium grocery store frozen dinner
If the economy were really improving they wouldn’t have to work at McDonald’s.
Just like Walmart, they knew the regime was mercilessly going to bash them in the press until they knuckled under.
I’m sure the regime will try to take credit with these workers for their raises too.
Thanks
When I was in Florida not long ago, the beach area had tons of local restaurants, most of which served some awesome seafood. About the only chain restaurant was a McDonalds. Believe it or not, I heard a woman complaining there was no Olive Garden around. Sigh!
I think it’s more likely the union goons, faced with dwindling members, are getting even more aggressive. Better to pay your employees a bit more than carry the headaches unions bring.
That’s absolutely the same way I travel. Using a site like Yelp can help you find food that isn’t a national chain in almost any city. Or just wander around a little bit.
My mother and father are the type that would just as soon eat at a chain, because they know what they will get there. I have taken them to some amazing restaurants they have ended up loving, in the towns where they lived, that they never ate at, because they’re busy eating at Outback or Applebee’s.
It kind of surprises me, because my dad used to be all about finding obscure but good hamburger stands, steak houses, bbq, Mexican, and seafood restaurants. He took me into some super-sketchy neighborhoods in the 1970s and 1980s in Kansas City and Memphis and down to the gulf coast but anymore, he just wants something familiar.
You think that will help? The democrats will accuse McDonalds or any other company of something else and want more kickbacks.
There’s a chain in the MD area called Jerry’s Subs. They boast of the world’s best cheese steaks. Huh—Not even close.
There’s a chain called Jersey Mikes Subs and they do pretty good on quality but yesterday I had a cheese steak was awful and dry plus barely any in the middle of the bread. Overpriced too-—I’m eating home meals more often and sick of paying for overpriced food often of inferior quality.
I guess I understand your folks. There is a tendency as we get older to feel comfortable only with familiar things. My Dad has passed on, but once he retired, he laid down the law — he and my mother were to eat out at least twice a week, more often if they were in the mood. My Dad would hear about some new restaurant, then one day he’d make what he called a “dry run” — he’d take a drive just to see where the restaurant was located. Then the next day he and Mom would go there to eat. They found some really good restaurants that way.
McDonalds food prices are already higher than that of their competitors..

They can pay them fifty dollars an hour if they want to. I do not go to McDonalds. If the other establishments price their product higher than I am willing to pay, I will stay out of their establishments also.
