What power? Didn’t the media launch a full scale war against Scott Walker against Scott Walker including rallies and “boycotts” by all these Hollywood creeps and various left wing nuts and unions across the country? What came of all that? Walker won three elections in 4 years and the public sector unions in Wisconsin were decimated. The first rule in these kinds of fights with the left wing kooks is to NEVER give in to blackmail, intimidation, threats and extortion. You fight fire with fire and don’t give and inch. I am not sure I am too happy with Mike Pence’s defensive posture at these interviews. Indiana does not owe apologies to anyone for defending freedom of religion. Ted Cruz is defending Indian as freedom of religion law better than Mike Pence is.

Amen, I was thinking the same. No doubt Ted Cruz would have answered George SteppingAllOverUs with a smart zinger back at him.

“Governor Pence was not prepared for this ambush”

He’s no Ted Cruz, that’s for sure.

3. The above points are the reason that the 1st amendment guarantees the right to free speech, even if it is discriminatory. From there emanates the right to free association, even if it is discriminatory. The founders felt that it was better to have private discrimination they did not necessarily agree with than to have the government dictate, at the barrel of a gun, what type of discrimination is allowed.

I have come around to the position that it is none of the government's business if people wish to discriminate.

As someone pointed out a long time ago, the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of association has an implicit corollary. The freedom to refrain from association.

Good intentions caused people to look to government to end what was regarded as immoral discrimination against blacks back in the 1950s and subsequent years. As with many good intentions, it went too far. We now regard it as "normal" to insist the government enforce a moral position on others without regard to their own rights.

The matter should have been dealt with by social pressure, not government force. It would have taken longer, but it would have eventually happened, and it would have still preserved the right to dissent.

“No George, you tell me, should it be legal, in the state of Indiana, to discriminate against Jewish people by forcing them to bake Swastika cakes for NeoNazis against their conscience?

They accept the right of conscience provided they agree with the conscience asserting the right. You might find this interesting. It is a case in Ireland where a homosexual objects to baking a wedding cake for a couple because he disagrees with the message they want on it.

I'm sure the media people will insist that it is unfair and "discriminatory" to insist a homosexual provide such a cake.

Well then he sure as hell ain't prepared to go anywhere near a Presidential run.

One of the things I like about Cruz is that he has no illusion as to who his enemies are when he's talking to the media.

He is fully aware that they are Democrat operatives.

“. Governor Pence was not prepared for this ambush.”

Then Gov, what the heck are you doing in office?

Coward.

My question is why was he not prepared for this? Has he been living under a rock that he would be unaware that this very question would, not could, be asked?

It was cringe inducing watching him respond. I was shocked that he let them frame the debate in that manner.

Just because the media get pushed back on one front does not mean they aren't advancing on other fronts. They mean to force Indiana to eat crow, and it looks like they are succeeding with their Monopoly of the Information streams bully tactics.

Agree. There shouldn't be any apologizing going on. We need to confront these bullies instead of acting contrite. "No, you DON'T have the right to force people to accept your behavior!"

This is a great example why Senator Ted Cruz is what we need. He seems to be the most capable to take that kind of interview question and make the reporter look like a fool with a direct explanation of common sense that goes to the heart of the issue.

Yup. Any Conservative who enters the race or goes anywhere near the media not expecting an ambush has his head planted firmly up his rear.

Fool Sarah Palin once, shame on us.
Fool someone else again, shame on them.

They are not discriminating against gays - they just don’t make a gay wedding cake. They can buy a regular wedding cake and gayefy it themselves.

If you refuse to serve someone without shoes or a shirt you are discriminating against the unhygienic. If you choose not to do business with a known cheat you are discriminating against poor character. If you choose not to create a flower arrangement for a homosexual faux marriage, you are discriminating against the heretical.

Most of the choices you make involve discriminating the good from the bad, the right from the wrong. The issue here is if it is right for the government to decide how you are allowed to discriminate.

I can imagine. Unfortunately there are numerous cringe inducing situations when Republicans are interviewed on TV. One reason Reagan was so popular is that he knew how to handle the press often leaving the press as the ones who owned the cringe inducing spectacles. Republicans need to learn how to handle the press like Reagan did. Until they do they will earn the moniker as The Stupid Party.
