It was cringe inducing watching him respond. I was shocked that he let them frame the debate in that manner.

I can imagine. Unfortunately there are numerous cringe inducing situations when Republicans are interviewed on TV. One reason Reagan was so popular is that he knew how to handle the press often leaving the press as the ones who owned the cringe inducing spectacles. Republicans need to learn how to handle the press like Reagan did. Until they do they will earn the moniker as The Stupid Party.
