No doubt there were some rapes, but this huge figure sounds like typical feminist drivel.

No doubt there were some rapes, but this huge figure sounds like typical feminist drivel.I'm sure they're counting consensual sex and quid pro quo as rape. To feminists, any sexual relations where there is an uneven balance of power is "rape by coercion".

You can get on the internet and find people in Japan who claim rape of Japanese women by GIs was common. There is one story about several truckloads of GIs invading a Japanese hospital and raping every woman in it. Naturally, there is no corroborating evidence.
My own feeling is that, while obviously rapes occurred, many of the rape stories have been invented by leftists who have obvious reasons for inventing these mass rape stories. The fact that twenty-nine GIs were hanged for rape leads me to believe most soldiers studiously avoided assaulting German women for fear of the ultimate punishment.
This is most likely just typical leftists making unfounded smears and insinuations for ideological reasons.

I think you're right, Steve.
When I was in the Army, a sign was posted there warning that rape is a crime.
