The man shot and killed by Smyrna police Tuesday after they said he tried to run down officers who went to his Vinings workplace to arrest him had a history of running from police.
And, in at least one prior case, he drove a car toward an officer.
While police Wednesday had not released the mans name, his parents came to the scene of the fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon, identified the dead man as Nicholas Taft Thomas and called for the FBI to look into the incident.
Felecia Thomas told Channel 2 Action News that her son loved cars and his family.
My son was a lovable guy, she said. He would do anything for anybody. He just had a baby.
Court and jail documents show that Thomas has numerous arrests in several metro Atlanta jurisdictions, and that he pleaded guilty last year in Cobb County Superior Court to a March 2013 charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer

He also had a history of assaulting police.
I’m guessing if he had gotten away he would have been charged with grand theft auto as well. After all, I doubt he bought the Maserati on what he made at a tire store.
Chief Gillespie had a way of dealing with the folks from The Bottoms....
Another Eagle Scout who went down the wrong path stories? I’m sure he was looking forward to starting college before racist, evil cops ended his life.
No Mom, he was a thug and a menace to society. You did a heckuva job raising him.
5 month old baby but no mention of a wife. Sadly predictable.
All these comments are predictably stupid. No, he wasn’t stealing the car- he was moving it to WORK on it. His “prior” aggravated assault of an officer was as vapid as this claim that he drove at the officers threatening them- an officer tried to waive him down for speeding and they claim he veered his car toward them.
you’ll notice the windows are blown out on the sides- not the windshield.
Not sure why you’re all so giddy about people getting blown away regularly unnecessarily. 7 officers for a warrant initiated by a speeding ticket. “Police state”- well done “conservatives”
I must assume you knew this individual personally to be so sure that all assumptions about him are wrong. I’m also not sure where you see anyone giddy about this. Sounds like you were riding around on your high horse looking for someone to belittle.
