Social Security Rolls Show 6.5 Million Centenarians SATIRE
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 14 March 2015 | John Semmens

Although the worldwide population of persons older than 112 years of age is estimated to be only three dozen, an investigation by the inspector general revealed that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has active accounts for 6.5 million persons over that age.

Obviously, there aren’t really 6.5 million persons that old living in America. Obviously, many recipients who have been long dead are regularly mailed benefits checks by SSA. Obviously, millions of identities have been stolen and are being used to rack up potential benefits.

Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis) and Tom Carper (D-Del), who head the Senate committee that oversees the Social Security Administration, called the IG’s findings “incredible” and “a serious problem.”

Acting Commissioner Carolyn Colvin rejected the IG’s recommendation that her agency make efforts to correct its records saying that “the recommendation would create a significant manual and labor-intensive workload and provide no benefit to the administration of our programs. Our philosophy is that it is better to allow a thousand ineligible payments than to deny one that is rightfully owed. President Obama has been consulted and has confirmed this approach. We see no need to change course.”

The next logical question is how many are collecting or possibly still paying into the pot? I don’t think we even want to know.

Nothing new here. I grew up in Chicagoland.

60 Minutes did a story on this last night.

If the recipient has no Medicare claims in the past three years they will come knocking.

About time.

You have to understand how the SSA databases are set up. There is one database for identifying information, and another for payment info. The payment info database also has dates of birth and death, but THE TWO ARE NOT DIRECTLY CONNECTED.
In other words, all this means is that the ID database didn't get fully updated, likely back in the paper file days. The payment database is much more accurate, always has been.

I would not object to a personal appearance or a visit every five years or so just to prove I am alive. But would it be “rayciss” for others to have to do it? < /sarc >

I felt really bad for the people who had been declared “deceased”, especially the older woman that carried the letter stating she was indeed “NOT Deceased”.

How about the woman that was going to jail for cashing her mom’s SS checks? She said she didn’t know, yea right!

She did it for 30 years, “yea I deserve Mom’s bennies”. She knew and that is why she never fought it.

I need to correct earleir comnents I made about this. My estemates about size of the SS info database was off. I calcualted 150 million dead people in the last 50 years. According to the IG, it has 86 million records, which make sense to me.

If you watched the show Scott Pelly was clearly not in the room asking the questions and his asking was dumped in later. It appeaed it might have even been in a different place. Pelley kept referring to people over 111 and the IG kept refering to people over 112. That would have been corrected if they were actually one on one.

Most of them are probably like when my mom passed. I called them and told them she had passed and the date. They backed out the check they had just deposited into the checking account and asked me to send them a copy of her death cert. Since they had already stopped her checks and took the last one back I said screw them, I’m not going to the trouble to send them jack. So she is probably still on their rolls even though there’s no money going out.
I’d bet very few people take the time to copy a death cert and send it in to them.
