With a pure bred, you know what to watch for.

Bottom line is that the show breeders who have constantly disregarded health and function for fashionable form have created a nightmare for *all* dogs.
A mutt still tends to be more healthy then a lot of the pure breeds. but bad genes is bad genes and is being inflicted by the puppy mills around the country
