Because people are willing to pay it.

IF you let yourself be scammed into buying useless creams, ointments, shampoos, gels, conditioners, salves, lotions, foundations, cover-ups, and all the rest of that crap, then you are not only vain, you are stupid. But that's only true if you LET yourself be conned.

There are many women who don't, or who wisely choose to buy the product rather than the package. They know that hair shampoo is hair shampoo, and the stuff that works well for men will work just as well for women, and at half the price.

If you can be vain and at the same time avoid squandering your money in the futile chase for beauty, then you are not stupid, even though you are vain. The two are not synonymous, which is why I actually drew the distinction.

Because they’ll pay it. I remember when the wife and I were first dating, she needed a new “make-up band” or whatever they’re called (to hold her hair back while removing make-up). We found it at the store for like a couple of bucks, but I looked at it and said “that’s just a sweatband and overpriced, let’s check out the sporting goods section”, where indeed we found packages of 3 sweatbands for less than the make-up band. And that was 25 years ago, nothing new here.

I agree with you. :)

Have a good Wednesday, IronJack, and God bless.
