The Chicago police department operates an off-the-books interrogation compound, rendering Americans unable to be found by family or attorneys while locked inside what lawyers say is the domestic equivalent of a CIA black site.
The facility, a nondescript warehouse on Chicago’s west side known as Homan Square, has long been the scene of secretive work by special police units. Interviews with local attorneys and one protester who spent the better part of a day shackled in Homan Square describe operations that deny access to basic constitutional rights.

This doesn’t pass the smell test to me. If what the Guardian claims is going on in there a lot of busts would be bad and this place would be a civil suit magnet.

I think it’s probably true. First, this is CHICAGO. But beyond that, would the Guardian (left leaning to be sure) risk whatever journalistic reputation it has by printing a phony story of this magnitude? Also the story has been repeated with added details and lost of quotes from lawyers etc. by BI.
My gut says most of this is probably on the money.

Sounds more like the 20’s and 30’s when the mob ruled with corrupt cops then and nothing has changed? There has to be some good cops in Chicago someplace.

Maybe in the real world, but it’s Chicago. Even the Feds are bought and paid for there.
Wrong. The mobs disappeared from Chicago because they became the Chicago government. Whether it be Health Dept. inspection shakedowns, electrical or plumbing permits and bribes and extortion, union extortion, Police Dept. protection rackets, etc. Just name a mob function and the Chicago government has cornered the market.
