ANKENY, Iowa The Ankeny School Board voted unanimously Monday to accept the resignation of a teacher who police said was intoxicated and had been in her classroom. The vote was made Monday evening.
Police said they were called to East Elementary School at 710 SE 3rd St. at 2 p.m. after receiving a report that a teacher was observed with a can of beer in her classroom.
Police said the teacher was taken into custody after testing positive during a preliminary breath test. A bag in her classroom had two empty cans of beer and four additional full cans of beer, police said.
Jennifer L. Rich, 40, of West Des Moines, was charged with one count of public intoxication and one count of child endangerment.
The incident was reported to police by a concerned parent who was in the school to assist with a Valentine's Day party, officials said.
We thoroughly investigate any report that raises a concern about the conduct of a staff member. Our students are our first priority, East Elementary School Principal Julianne Taylor said to parents Monday night.
Taylor said the school has already secured a substitute for the remainder of the year. She also apologized for the incident and ensured the school's dedication to its students' safety.
Rich is not being held in police custody, and the case remains under investigation.
I don't think I can wait to learn this important fact!
She looks...off.
I don’t see what the problem is here. How were her kids test scores?
(Sarcasm)
She was just showing her class the easiest way to belch the alphabet!
That’s a very large can.
It’s the only way to drink at work...
I suppose ...
I never tried drinking at work.
She has some serious problems to do that, and around helpless toddlers too! If this went unchecked, it’s a matter of when, not if, a child finds a half empty can of beer and takes a few sips, gets sick and/or soused.
LOL! That’s one way to say, “Take this job and shove it!”
I remember when I worked at a very small office, and it was pretty informal, we decided to have a “Hawaiian Day”, just for kicks (with the bosses’ permission). We were getting lit up drinking pina coladas at work :)
Ah, the good old days.
Her eyes (only her eyes, not the face!) remind me of that popular meme showing a dark haired girl with a hypnotic stare pretending to be some guys ex-girl friend who is obviously still OBSESSED with him.
I worked nights in a law office for a while, and some of the lawyers kept booze in their desks. I would go home when the drinking started.
Maybe she was drunk and put her contacts in backward. My husband did that once (only he was sober ...). He gave up the contacts soon after.
I guess it all depends on whether you like your co-workers or not. I had some that used to drink after work, I hung out with them once, and they were no fun, so I skipped it after that.
Principal’s guidelines:
You can’t have beer in the classroom unless you’re willing to share with the students - so there! Fair’s fair ya know.
What is our country coming to???
