According to kcwy13.com, husband Jim Golay, 53, died of an inoperable brain tumor last year, less than a year after his diagnosis.

In fact, he not only sent this year's roses, he arranged with a local flower shop to send her flowers every Valentine's Day until her death, according to kcwy13.com.

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the most: that people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love, true love, never dies... No matter if they're true or not, a man should believe in those things because those are the things worth believing in."

Bless Mr. Golay. Having been married almost 40 years now I know exactly where he was coming from. Although my wife would rip me a new one if I bought her flowers. She’d say “Why would you waste money on flowers when we could have used that money to go out to Red Lobster or Outback”

I think it’s sweet too but might be a hair awkward if she starts dating again etc

Some women do

Most men under 70 do

Yes it’s thoughtful

Any guy she is seeing that would have a problem with it is probably someone she shouldn’t be seeing.

My first thought, too. The new guy will have to out do the old guy with bigger bouquets, ginormous boxes of chocolate and a trip to Hawaii every year.

I avoid widowers, for this reason. You can never measure up. They just about deify their late wife.

Up to a point

Year after year

I disagree

It’s like leaving dead spouses clothes in closet or toiletries in bathroom forever even if an Act II Shows up

Getting folks to let go is hard and poignant but a milestone if one chooses to keep going

Life is meant for living

Some pull out loss memories and pain and polish it off as like an odd source of strength or you feel traitorous etc if you go with another lover

It’s complicated

If she enters a new relationship at some point I imagine the flowers may be asked to curtail or take on a slightly different meaning

Sad as it sounds

My grandfather loved my grandma and died young....rebuffed all suitors from 50 on till she died 39 years later....he had made her promise this

My FIL was a widower at 75 and went hog wild....a complete fool....he had been loyal to his wife who’s health had precluded things for 20 years at least

I’m 57...bad from birth heart...whatever....my wife is 50....and really still pretty well put together

I croak in 5 and she’ll have another man at least

I’d prefer her to be happy and not alone

My boys will be the tough sell

As usual in freeperdom. No platitude answer that works

Didn’t Jack Benny do that?

Benny arranged to have one long stemmed rose delivered every day to his wife, Mary, after his death. I think she passed several years later. Despite his show biz persona — a tightwad — Benny was really a generous man.

I am the sort of guy that would do something like this... the problem is finding the right person that might actually appreciate such a thing.

I have, for a dating pool, a bunch of YOLO-type shrews that believe every man is replaceable and nothing is forever.

Secondhand Lions (2003)

A good movie that, IMHO, all boys should watch. I made sure my sons watched it when they were younger.

God bless Mr. and Mrs. Golay, and may Mr. Golay rest in peace.
