CHICAGO — Evergreen Park Athletic Association Vice President Chris Janes, who first called for an investigation into Jackie Robinson West's boundary changes, says he has received several threatening phone calls, including death threats, since the team was stripped of its U.S. title Wednesday.

"We got about 50 messages," he told DNAinfo Chicago. "I only listened to a few. Some were gibberish ... saying things like 'You're an a------.' A couple said, 'You deserve to die.'"

"I'm not really concerned. People have been leaving s----- emails and voicemails."

Janes said he has support from the local police.

Here is an example:

I live on the border between MA and CT. I should have my head examined for exactly that reason, but I digress. If my little league team is Western MA, then I cannot recruit in CT. Is that an arbitrary rule? Perhaps. But they want to give each district or region a chance to have THEIR best players.

If you do not have rules like that, you would have a national all star team recruiting from all over the country.

And...its little league baseball. Who really gives a hoot enough about it to cheat? It just shows you how whacked the adult leaders are.

I used to come across idiots like this in AAU basketball with parents screaming at coaches and refs. I loved watching my girls play, but I could not stand the parents.

Those are great points too, especially your last one.

What would happen:

*The FBI would be called in as that would be a civil rights infringement; The adults in charge would be charged with hate crimes, crimes against humanity, etc.
*Then, using both Emminent Domain and Executive Orders, the area would be “integrated” at breakneck speed; a project or three to be built in the offending area.

Am I that far off?

i’m guessing (pretty accurately, i surmise) that the population of any one of those districts is well over 100,000

I coached little league for many years.

Some people - parents, coaches - forget what it's about.

It's about the Kids. And teaching them how to play the game, and how to be good sportsmen when winning or losing. And teaching them that life is competition, and you don't always win no matter how hard you work at it.

Adults who live vicariously through their kids shouldn't be anywhere near the field; they destroy it for the kids.

This coach was an ass for doing what he did. He ruined what could have been a great moment for the little guys.

All he wound up teaching them is that cheating pays off.

“Adults who live vicariously through their kids shouldn’t be anywhere near the field; they destroy it for the kids.”

This seems to be a huge problem, nowadays.

” Adults who live vicariously through their kids shouldn’t be anywhere near the field; they destroy it for the kids. “

It just seems to get worse at LL games. Parents trying to live vicariously through their kids, or think it really IS a major league game.

You would not believe some of the parents I dealt with.

Flipping out because I didn’t play their kid one inning, so another kid would have a chance to play...

Flipping out because their kid suddenly wanted to pitch - but had no arm whatsoever, and NEVER asked to pitch...

Screaming at me for putting their kid in the outfield - when EVERYONE got turns in the outfield...

Yeah. It was... interesting... watching some of these people turn into complete lunatics.

Yet... whenever there was Field Work - you know, Volunteer stuff - to be done to keep the field in shape, NONE of these same folks would show up.

Always the same couple of moms and dads would be there to help, and I was always grateful for it. But the loudmouths - not a sign of them when there was assistance needed.

See my response at #30 to Impy.

I had some of the best times of my life coaching my kid and all the other kids who passed through our township league.

Even the so-called “problem kids” really weren’t a problem. The problems were typically the parents - and even then, NOT a lot of them.

It was a good thing to do, and to this day, a lot of those kids still call me “Coach” when they see me. A few of them even stopped by the house to say goodbye and thanks before going off to college.

That’s something I’ll always remember.

No one should care where the kids live.

So a rich neighborhood could recruit players from all over the world?

Kind of like pro sports for children.

What could possibly go wrong?

I know about the rules of the league. The rules can be changed. I agree that, if the kids broke the current rules, they should lose their title.

The league wants to have something resembling neighborhood teams.

It works.

Don’t monkey with it.

Don’t cheat it.

Don’t scream racism when you get caught cheating it.

You are right on here.

I coached my daughter’s basketball up to the point where they started to learn plays. And I only missed a couple games from that day forward.

Coaching kids is the best way to keep up with them, get them to trust you, and get to know who your kids’ friends are.

I found that getting kids to accept referee calls—even when they were horribly wrong—was one of the best lessons that kids can learn.

I used to tell them, “They made the call, and they have the whistle. You want to make calls, get a whistle. Otherwise, get on with the game.”

“...You want to make calls, get a whistle. Otherwise, get on with the game...”

hahah!! Damn, you sound like me there... I just changed the last part of it to “Now suck it up and git yer ass back out on the field before he throws you out of the game...”

True, though. Lessons learned on the field are oftentimes the longest lasting.

I used to tell my guys “We’re a little BETTER than the kids who don’t sign up. Why? Because we willingly put ourselves out here - WE are the ones getting bloodied up, sweating our butts off in the heat, showing up early and leaving late, getting banged up, beat up, stitched up and patched up... and then going out and winning...”

They loved it. So did I. Quality time spent with my boy (and also my daughter when she played softball and soccer, but that was only two years).
