As an RV owner, I couldn't imagine a worse nightmare than trying to drive/tow an RV when the SHTF.

I wouldn’t tow a camper. I’d be driving one. A small one.

I couldn't imagine a worse nightmare than trying to drive/tow an RV when the SHTF. That... plus the ex-mother-in-law over your shoulder, telling you what you did wrong.
That would be worse. ;)

Personally if you are looking for a vehicle to double as alternate shelter a truck may be a better option. Nothing is great unless it’s armored. Otherwise people will just shoot into it and kill everyone inside.

I saw a deuce and a half that had an office module on the back. You could deck it out however you want.

My Generation 1 1998 Durango should be good, except for the gas mileage. Making up for that is PLENTY of power, room, 2WD, AWD, 4WD, high and 4WD low for getting into and out of remote areas or pulling stumps.
318 reliable engine. Slid plates, HUGE grill guard with WAAG for lights. Seats 8 but fold down the rear seat and get lots of room PLUS the roof rack.
Another plus... I can do burnouts at will.

There are some neat camping trailers that are designed to be pulled by 4x4s into really remote areas.

And if you're more into roughing it.

To me, a travel-trailer makes the most sense.

A suitably modified LVSR would do the trick.

No. Get an older vehicle that does not have any computers.
You want points, plugs, and condensers.
Get something you can still get parts for, that economical and is fairly common like an old jeep.
Some of the
Jeepsters with the V-6 engine could really move, and climb.
Take a look at this video to get some thoughts about an alternative to a "camper" because it's well worth your time.

Exactly. A small camper van that sips fuel (preferably diesel) would be ideal.

After doing some research on this subject, I've concluded that this is by far the best vehicle for a SHTF scenario:
It's called an EarthRoamer, and it's a custom-made off-road camper built on a Ford Super Duty truck chassis that could range in size from an F-350 to an F-550. It's got decent size and nice features, is fully self-contained, is far more agile and fuel-efficient than an RV, and can get you to remote places off paved roads as well. I could see this type of vehicle coming in very handy in a "Mad Max" scenario, for sure.

A 30’ to 40’ SAILBOAT with an auxiliary engine makes the entire world a back yard to hide in, with readily available food and water. Solar panels to operate basic stuff. Old boat ....hackneyed: no one wants it....you appear as too impoverished to make it worth the risk of assault! IMHO.

Be sure to look at the International MXT models as well. Like a crew-cab pickup or Hummer-like SUV, but on steroids. They remind me of the old military M-37 (Dodge Power Wagon) trucks, but modern and comfortable.
