Vatican condemns plastic surgery saying it is 'like a burqa made of the flesh'

* Cosmetic surgery is 'aggressive' towards female identity, says Vatican

* The women's initiative was rolled out by a Vatican office before Christmas

* But a clip featuring blonde Italian actress Nancy Brilli was taken down

* It came after the Internet promotional video was ridiculed by some viewers

Plastic surgery is a form of 'aggression' against the female body 'like a burqa made of the flesh,' according to the Vatican.

The working paper for a church plenary assembly on 'Women's Cultures: Equality and Difference' looked at the pressure faced by women and issues of body image.

But even as it acknowledged for centuries offering women 'ideological and ancestral left-overs', the church also faced ridicule for distributing a promo video featuring a 'sexy' blonde actress.

In the Pontifical Council for Culture's working paper, cardinals noted that going under the knife for elective surgery has been linked to eating disorders and depression. 'Plastic surgery that is not medico-therapeutic can be aggressive toward the feminine identity, showing a refusal of the body in as much as it is a refusal of the 'season' that is being lived out,' it said.

The members of the Pontifical Council also warned over the 'indiscriminate and undifferentiated' objectification of women in the media and advertising.

'No political or social battle has been able to do without a mechanism so profoundly rooted as that of the exploitation of the female body for commercial benefit,' the working paper said.

“A burqa made out of flesh”?

Jeez, I wish the Vatican would stop giving the Muslims ideas.

What about “sex change” surgery, condemned by the Church because all unnecessary surgery (that is, not necessary for physical medical reasons) is considered mutilation? Since Pope Francis was out there hugging and “affirming” a sad, deluded freak who believes she’s being changed into a man, I think he needs to read about this.

Maybe he doesn’t know...

I don’t much like the idea of plastic surgery other than to repair defects.

I guess if a girl has a really, really ugly nose, then it would be OK to get a nose job.

The Vatican trivializes the Church criticizing plastic surgery or defending the hoax of global warming while keeping silent while thousands of Christians are beheaded, crucified or burned alive and thousands of churches destroyed in the name of Allah.

That's a stretch.

Plastic surgery to fix a birth defect or to fix the results of an injury or illness is OK.But to snip something from someone’s nose or add something to a woman's physique is beyond stupid.

It is time for the Vatican to condemn ‘Maryology’ and other forms of idolatry.

Plastic surgery can be kind of a problem, since women have died trying to have their backsides or other parts expanded, reshaped, or whatever...I think a regular nose job would probably be pretty harmless. Major cosmetic surgery can be excessive and people (or governments, since in Brazil, the government will pay for women’s “butt jobs”) shouldn’t be spending their money or risking their health on it.

What I want to know is why the Vatican is worried about cosmetic things when the Loony Pope was out there hugging and “affirming” some poor deluded freak who thinks she’s being surgically changed into a man.
