To Congress and prosecutors in the American states,
We now know that at least one of the five members of the Taliban that president Obama recently swapped in exchange for deserting U.S. soldier Bowe Berghdal has already attempted to reconnect with his terrorist friends in the Taliban. Others who have been released from Guantanamo Bay in the past have done the same thing and returned to their previous terrorist activities. These men are considered heroes and revered by members of the Taliban, ISIS, and Al Qaeda.
It is abundantly clear that this president fully intends to fulfill his pledge to close the Guantanamo Bay facility before the end of his presidency, even if he has to release every terrorist being held prisoner in order to do it. Yes, that likely even includes Khalid Sheikh Mohammed himself.
The United States has a deep responsibility, not just to our own country, but to the rest of the civilized world, to see to it that no more of these brutish, murderous terrorists see the light of day ever again to wreak their violent havoc upon innocent people.
Because of this, I believe that it is of the utmost importance that we start the process of putting these terrorists on trial immediately, even if it has to be done in our civilian court system. I understand how distasteful this idea is to many people, but it is far better to do this and ensure they can be held in our prisons forever than to have them all released to commit more murder and terrorism. And if we do nothing, that is exactly what will happen.
I hope that you will think about this and do the right thing for mankind, before it is too late.
Sincerely,
jpl
They should get military tribunals, not civilian trials.
He'd rather release them all, which is kind of my whole point.
"...ain't gonna happen"
I agree with tribunal and thdey should be open and public. One of the purposes of a trial is to show the public the horrible things the accused has done. Let the world know what we kinow about the terrorists and they will know what we’ve been talking about all along.
Need to put Hussein on trial PRONTO!
They don’t even deserve military tribunals. According to the Geneva Conventions, nonuniformed combatants can be summarily executed. So hold a hearing so see if they were actively fighting against U.S. soldiers—if so, line them up against the wall and shoot them.
