More guns, less murder in one graph
YouTube ^ | Jan 23, 2015 | Bill Whittle

Edited on 01/27/2015 1:12:53 PM PST by Admin Moderator. [history]

If you have not yet seen Bill Whittle's video "Number One With a Bullet," you should. It is as succinct a rebuttal to anything the gun-control freaks can come up with as you will find.

Here is a link to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pELwCqz2JfE

Here are links to the three data sources that he references.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate#By_country

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate

I snagged the data from the first two links and plotted "Guns per 100K Residents" on the X-axis and "Murders per 100K Residents" on the Y-axis.

I call it "More Guns, Less Murder."

Submitted for your approval.

That graph reminds me of a vibrating football game I had as a kid.

If anybody is looking for the first mentioned video it’s “Number one with a BULLET”.

I had already asked the moderator to fix it. We’ll see.

I did provide a link, so they don’t have to look for it.

Good work. Suggestions: 1. You need the axes labeled, or it's meaningless. 2. Try fitting it to something like
m=900/(g+90) or m=a/(g+b)**2

It looks my ant farm from my younger days. Why I invited ants into my bedroom as a yute is one of those unsolved quandaries in the "what was I thinking" chapter.

All kidding aside, an armed society really is a polite society. And where there are guns, there is good.

Don’t you think that actually labelling the X and Y axes would help us to understand the graph?

I did this with on online linear regression calculator. I couldn't find anything for curve fitting. I'll keep looking.

I labeled the X-axis wrong.

You could convert your data by plotting 1/m against g and doing a regression analysis on that.

I see you have given the labels for the abscissa and the ordinate, as well as a legend. However, there is no particular relationship between the data as presented and a least-squares model. You need more dependent variables if guns per capita is the independent variable.

I found an article that already did the graph.
