OK but again why sample 500 people why not just get the sales data?They sell these market studies to industry members, who develop production plans, pricing strategy and so on based in part on them. You're just seeing the headline. The underlying data is provided to subscribers, who pay good money for it.

Bottom line is time is of the essence. Decision-makers need the info before earnings reports come out, and the earnings reports don’t all come out at the same time.

OK but again why sample 500 people why not just get the sales data? One reason is that the only maker that releases actual sales data is Apple. Apple reports numbers of phone sold to end users. The rest merely release "shipped" numbers. . . not the numbers of phones sold to end users. Apple will be reporting their numbers on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, two days from today.
