What about the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942, which was the first major sea battle fought entirely with carrier based aircraft.

What I loved were the sandy little uninhabited islands that drift off below Chatham. They looked SO awesome from the air.

The Florida Keys from a biplane are amazing too. You can actually see the sharks and rays swimming amongst the coral.

that looks really small. Sort of reminds me of the P51 Mustang kits I have seen online that are half or three-quarter size.

The Ercoupe came out in 1946 (they manufactured a few later in the late 60's, but almost all were made right after WW II). The general aviation aircraft industry was in full swing, thinking that tens of thousands of newly training pilots would be buying airplanes like cars.

That never really panned out. Most GIs were trying to go back to college or trade school in the GI bill, get married, have kids, save for a home, and get their lives back to together.

But some great aircraft were made in 1946 - many still flying today.

The Ercoupe was designed by the same guy who designed the Piper 140. He thought he would design an aircraft that didn't need rudder pedals for control, the rudder axis is connect to the yoke. He also made the aircraft "spin proof" for safety, but I tried spinning it and it sort of did spin. It certainly stalled. It was called the "poor man's P-38" at the time, in reference to the great Lockheed Lightening.

Don’t think I saw Grumman’s F-14 Tomcat listed.
The Navy pilots loved that airplane.
(And the plane became a movie star ala Tom Cruise)!

We ended up coming from NY where Grumman was located for years, to CA in 1969 because the Tomcat went to Pt. Mugu to test it’s missiles over the Pacific, and my spouse went to work in the personnel office, later to be re-named ‘Human Resources.’
Decided to retire here rather than return to NY.

The MetLife Blimp was and maybe still is, moored at the Camarillo Airport. Love seeing that thing overhead!

The Goodyear Blimp is berthed right down the street from me, and so i see it quite ofter.

At night, it is lit from inside and is sometimes mistaken for a UFO!

We have Air Shows around here frequently, and one day I looked up at a very low-flying B-29.

But the high point of my “Aviation Adventure” was when i flew a WW2 era T-6 over Kissimmee.

No...I stand corrected. The high point of my “Aviation Adventure” was chatting with Gen Paul Tibbetts at Tamiami Airport. After his lecture, I hung out with him a bit, got his autograph, and showed him my Harley, which he liked very much.

About the graphic...it left a lot of important stuff out, but was fun to look at, anyway! LOL!
