Quoting an unnamed source who witnessed the action, the report said that the aircraft carried out four airstrikes sparking panic in the ranks of ISIS after flying close to the ground.

The Strela is a Russian made shoulder fired surface to air missile intended to target the engines of aircraft. Russia has exported it in large numbers to a number of Middle Eastern countries including Iraq.

No, the problem is that the Strela (better known as the SA-7 Grail) is an ancient, shoulder-fired surface-to-air SAM. It literally represents first-generation technology in man-portable (MANPAD) SAMs—on par with the long-retired U.S. Redeye.

We devised effective counter-measures for the SA-7 long ago. And given their operating environment, A-10 pilots are experts at defending against those threats, including the various generations of MANPADs. So, you’ve got a very rugged aircraft, equipped with state-of-the-art countermeasures and flown by pilots who know more about shoulder-fired SAMs than anyone else in the fighter community.

I should also point out that jihadi MANPAD training/employment have always been suspect...sort of a point, shoot and pray approach. And when they miss (and get a hail of 30 mm coming their way, the terrorists cut and run.
