Florida Schools Ban Bibles After Pressure from Atheists

Amid mounting pressure from both atheist groups and concerned parents, Orange County (Fla.) Public Schools have banned Bible distribution in several area high schools after Satanists and an anti-religion group announced plans to pass out their own literature.

One of the largest school systems in the country with more than 180,000 students, OCPS had allowed World Changers of Florida, a Christian group, in conjunction with the Florida Family Policy Council to passively distribute Bibles to high school students on Jan. 16—which is National Freedom of Religion Day—for the past three years.

Under the school system’s policy at the time, Bibles could be placed on a table in a common area for students to pick up if they chose to do so.

Last year, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist group, sued for the right to distribute its own literature after losing a battle to have all outside materials banned from the schools. One of the group’s proposed pamphlets included a small leaflet titled “An X-Rated Book: Sex and Obscenity in the Bible.”

I’m sure giving out copies of the koran will be ok.

But Duke University is allowing muzzie prayers to be amplified from its chapel. Is this country screwed or what?

What’s their problem? If G-d doesn’t exist according to them what difference does it make if kids bring a book on a fake religion. Oh, the Koran is okay though ...

In schools, the Bible should be considered a secular book of English Literature on a par with the Iliad, the Odyssey and The Aeneid, AND Shakespeare.

The students can then read it and get out of it what they want.

“... after Satanists and an anti-religion group announced plans to pass out their own literature.”

These groups are not Satanists or even atheist. They are homosexuals. They worship hedonism and are deadly afraid and phobic of Christians. It’s as simple as that.

No, there should be no such “consideration” for/classification of any books, especially if it leads to this kind of attack on the First Amendment. Leads to being one step away from book burnings.

When I was in the 5th grade the Gideons gave out New Testaments to everyone who wanted one. I think every single student got one.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

If it was an area which was mostly Catholic I would have no problem with them giving out whatever they use.

Islam is different. It teaches murder, mutilation, and brutality to non Muslims. That is not acceptable.

When I was in 7th grade in Virginia (ancient history), after the Pledge of Allegiance, the students took turns opening the day with a Bible verse of their choice. Both Christian and Jewish students.

The first thing they should do, is bring a Bible to school. Do these slime bags want the negative fallout over something like that? Many times, when these idiots are confronted, they back off, because they can't take the heat Put the heat on em.

I guess you could put these right next to the Bibles, and they would become a hot item. I'm sure any of the (ahem) children who chose to investigate would be rather disappointed, because somehow it just doesn't come across that way ... know what I mean? And well, these days I wonder if they could even parse the syntax.
