Ah- now comes the question of criteria. How ‘persistent’ do the delusions have to be? Does grandpa have to ask once, three times, over a certain period of time?Who makes the call- the government(driven by PC), the family/caregiver( who might take it personally if the individual is denied their ‘right’?) or the doctors( who will make a bunch of $ from the surgery?) I don’t assume much in the way of common sense or integrity from people anymore. We’re talking degrees of insanity and a judgment call in a medical record.No one has the guts to close the Pandora’s box of PC. What happens to these elderly who chose self-mutlitation- if dementia happens after surgery and their altered body makes them worse-reversal?
Funny isn’t it- the government can entertain the idea that past a certain age you are not ‘worth’ treatment to extend your life, but when it comes to anything sex/deviance related there can be NO age cutoff because PC and politics trumps everything.
