They can’t pile on enough for me.
And I’m an ex-Floridiot and ex-FSU fan.
That they mollycoddle this thug disgusts me.
That must be some kind of super/record setting butt-kicking.
I, too, was pulling for Oregon. I, who was born and raised in the Deep South, have been an SEC fan or any Southern team fan since birth, was pulling for Oregon.....because the FSU ‘quarterback’ should be doing 25-to-Life for rape with years added on for his other crimes.
I don’t get the hated towards Winston. He’s a brilliant football player. He’s immature as many who are pampered throughout high school and college athletics can be. Thuggish? Where? There is absolutely no evidence on the rape accusations. It’s been through multiple levels of review. It’s likely a UVA or Duke style accusation. Free food? Happens on every campus.
That game was not on his shoulders. The running back with two fumbles cost the game, along with a weak defensive effort and a well executed game by the Ducks. Only when the game was out of hand did Winston fumble and later lose his composure. He guy hadn’t lost a game in years, and he was trying desperately to make a 4th down play to save the season. He handled it badly and showed severe immaturity. I also would love to see him stick around another year and grow up. He could be an nfl star or a flop and and early exit this year may well tip that to the downside. He’s not ready for that level of fortune and needs to earn it.
Florida State recruits (or recruited, maybe they're changing now) heavily from "tough" neighborhoods, and got the expected results. You can take the boy out of the 'hood, but you can't always take the 'hood out of the boy.
I’m not at all a Winston or FSU fan and was rooting against him. I also think that any NFL team that drafts him given his baggage is absolutely crazy.
That said, I don’t think this play will linger for more than a few days. The difference between this play and the Garo Yepremian pass that people are comparing it to, is that Winston was doing what he was supposed to be doing under the circumstances. Yepremian had no reason to do anything other than fall onto the ball. On the other hand, there was a reason that Florida State was going for it on 4th and 5. At that point in time, what little hope FSU had left rested on continuing the drive and scoring a touchdown. Taking a sack or throwing the ball away would have been the worst things he could have done at that point. Instead, he extended the play for as long as possible and when there was still no open receiver, he tried a desperation throw. It didn’t have the desired outcome, but he absolutely made the right football decision.
That was against Arkansas.
My favorite part of that game was the Ducks chanting “No means no!” on thew field, in reference to the rape that the low-life thug Winston got away with.
OH. (I need to pay closer attention)
Like him or not, there is no evidence whatsoever that Jameis Winston raped anybody. Today's star athletes don't even have to ask for sex, as plenty of girls are lined up to throw themselves at them.
The girl in question belonged to a group who called themselves "Cleat Chasers" and bragged online about how many FSU athletes they slept with. After her successful conquest of Winston, her roommate tattled to the girl's parents, who were appalled that their lily-white flower had soiled herself with Mandingo. Her attorney aunt pressured the "victim" to file charges against Winston, but she was strangely uncooperative in the effort. According to Leon County's state attorney - a former police sergeant who has prosecuted many FSU athletes over the years - the alleged victim did not want to testify and changed her story at each questioning. There was no crime to prosecute. Regret over being caught does not constitute rape.
This is not simply a defense of Jameis Winston, who apparently has many flaws. It is a defense of the rule of law which protects us all from charges for which there is no evidence.
If I were a NFL GM, I might take a flyer on Winston in the third round. He is way too much risk for the first round and a coach killer. Did anyone see how he interacts with his coach?
He needs a tough coach who is willing to stick him on the bench when he doesn’t listen. He either grows up or we have another Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young or Ryan Leaf.
Seriesly ?
(had a feeling I'd see a FL flag when checking your profile)
Shoplifting incidents
In July 2013, a Burger King employee called police in July to complain that Winston was stealing soda. According to the police report, Winston came in to the restaurant with three men, but did not order any food. An employee, who recognized him, first saw him using ketchup cups to take some soda. He asked for a water cup after she told him to stop, but he said he would use it for soda and filled it repeatedly with soda over her objections, the report said.[28] On April 29, 2014, Winston was issued an adult civil citation for shoplifting crab legs from a Tallahassee Publix store.[29] Winston was ordered to undergo 20 hours of community service and was suspended from any college baseball activity until he completed his community service.
Vulgar comments
On September 17, 2014, Winston was suspended for the first half of Florida State's upcoming game against Clemson. The Guardian reported that, "several students tweeted," that Winston shouted, "--------," an Internet meme,[30] while standing atop a table in Florida State University's Student Union.[31] Two days later, university president Garnett S. Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox, citing results of an "ongoing investigation", announced that Winston would be suspended for the whole game.[32]

Did you see Winston’s post-game interview? He said that the game could’ve gone either way several times. Actually he said could’ve “went” but I digress. Many times he said that they beat themselves. That if people were really honest about it, really honest, that FSU beat themselves. Oregon had nothing to do with their loss. He had not one ounce of respect for the team that manhandled his team by 39 points. What an arrogant jackass. So the hate towards Winston? It’s a factor of so many times, this guy acts like an entitled jerk. If you don’t give him what he wants, he’ll try to take it from you anyway.
that last turnover was right out of the Curley play book, whoop, whoop, whoop! Where are you Moe?
Here is the apparent original of the meme. A young reporter was most incautious in an on-air report. The anchorette is shocked, but handles it well. Not safe for widows, orphans, or work!
I think most of his statements were accurate. He did need to give Oregon more credit, but it was a close game until the two fumbles. His now famous fumble was on 4th down with everything on the line, and the play was a disaster. That game was a blowout only in the last quarter and a half as things just plain imploded for FSU. I am not an FSU fan, but I’ve generally be supportive of them the past two seasons, and that was a game that probably would have been nail biting at the end if not for the FSU mistakes. I think Oregon had the edge, but FSU has won a lot of games when the opposition had the lead in that same situation in the 3rd quarter.
I think FSU as a whole handled the last quarter horribly, giving up and looking foolish once it was lost. Most of the team also showed poor sportsmanship walking to the locker room at the end. Winston was one of the few to go out and congratulate the Ducks. The guy is raw, but so are 2/3s of the players out there at age 20 or less. He has much room for improvement in temperament and maturity. His skillset is unreal, though, if the other stuff doesn’t get in the way. As I mentioned, I’d love to see him take the offseason to refocus and mature and put together one more year at FSU. I think it would do him much good in the big picture.
The NFL scouts will likely see differently, and he’ll go for the top 5 draft position. I’ll say the happiest people if he goes pro now will be the other ACC teams and other opposition for 2015. FSU will not likely be better when he’s gone.
Winston said: “This game could have went either way, if you want to be — if everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way.”
What you said:
***That game was a blowout only in the last quarter and a half...***
Great observation. You reinforced my point. A game that is a blowout, ESPECIALLY for a quarter and a half, is not one that could’ve gone either way. Disrespect to the opponent duly noted.
In your earlier post, you had asked about all the hate directed at FSU and Winston in particular. The above is one of my exhibits for that point of view. I’ll go a step further, and say that in my opinion, the arrogant attitude is systemic at FSU, and it began a long time ago. The poor sportsmanship by FSU, which you mentioned, has been par for the course for years. Year in and year out, it’s the way they behave, on the field and off of it. It’s more than pride in themselves that they have, which I don’t have a problem with. It is their condescension for others that irks me. Reminds me of Obama and his regime, with that same attitude towards many Americans. Maybe it’s something in the water in Tallahassee.
Contrast that attitude with the one displayed by Blake Sims after Alabama’s loss to Ohio State. He expressed gratitude in his statement, for God, for his university, and for his teammates. He took responsibility for the loss himself. Here’s what Sims said after the game, “It hurts. It hurts a lot. Not for myself, but for my teammates because I know how hard they work in practice, I know how hard they work in the offseason and I went out there and had a game like I did. I take full responsibility for this and maybe if I had played better, we’d have had an opportunity to win.”
Now that’s class. Nick Saban was also classy in his remarks. He spoke with humility, respect, and pride in what they had accomplished, not what they hadn’t. That’s the kind of attitude I don’t see at FSU. Sorry, but that’s just how I view it.
To your other point, I am in agreement. I always hope for these collegiate athletes to stay in school and finish their education first. I want each of them to walk away with a degree, even if they are almost meaningless these days. To me, it still shows character to finish what you started. We never really know what curves life will throw us, and getting your degree versus not is a step towards handling those curves. So, like you, I hope Winston stays another year, and earns a degree before he moves on.
With all due respect, a game can end up very one sided a the end, even if it is a close match. FSU was moving down the field when the freshman back fumbled starting the 2nd half. That turnover resulted in a quick score. Then, it happened again with another quick score. From there, it was desperation mode, and when that failed, the team pretty much quit.
The defense absolutely failed in the 2nd half to quell the situation that were placed in. The offense made three critical turnovers, but otherwise was moving the ball. The score got got out of hand once all of those things compounded. Sometimes, things just go horribly wrong in a game. There are countless examples of better teams getting beat big, or competitive teams having a one sided outcome. It’s just one game, though.
I think 3/4 times these team play, it would be fairly matched. I’d give the Ducks an edge based on what we saw last week because I think FSU’s defense just wasn’t nearly as good this year as last. They assembled a lot of great 2nd halves this season that kept them undefeated, but the Oregon offense was better than most they faced. The FSU offense would perform better than that most days. Oregon’s defense played very well on that day, but I think most days, the offense would score more and have less turnovers. The Ducks probably are slightly better this year. The game next Monday will be interesting with a more defense minded opponent, and see if Meyer can game plan to slow them down. I have no idea what to expect, other than seeing a Heisman winner on one side and a 3rd stringer on the other making his 3rd start. So far, he’s held his own, but the pressure may be on if Oregon can put points on the board.
I expect the Ducks will beat the Buckeyes next week, but whether it will be a beat down or not remains to be seen.
For someone who professes to only generally pull for the Seminoles, you are quite the apologist for them. Just a FRiendly observation. You’ve stated your position well, and I appreciate the conversation. Have a great day!
