Apple is making record profits so of course, you are going to have a gaggle of ambulance-chasing lawyers looking to get their tentacles into some of it - parasites that they are.

It's a cost of doing business when you are successful company. My company recently got sued because some hourly employees were checking their emails at night and not getting "paid" to do so. Even though we made it clear to those employees that they should not check email after hours. We had to eventually settle some claims and find a way to make it difficult for them to login to their email accounts at night. What a waste of time and resources that we could have put to use elsewhere.

Anyway, if Swordmaker is not a member of the Apple legal defense team, he ought to be. He would rip those ambulance chasers to sheds in the courtroom.

Somehow I have to buy iCloud storage each month. It’s only 99 cents but I still don’t know why I need it

You do? I got 5GBs free. . . and then pay $3.99 for an additional 200GB. . . because I've selected to backup certain files there and share certain files on iCloud. . . but no one forced me to buy anything. If you are paying 99¢ a month, you may be paying $11.99 for a 25GB plan. Check under "Settings/iCloud/Storage/Change Storage Plan" for what plan you have. you may not need that much unless you have more than what you described. If so, call 1-800-my apple

Should add that if you do not buy an iPhone very soon after release you will not be able to get one later with the maximum memory.

That's not true. . . Apple and the carriers generally run out of the lower cost, lower memory capacity iPhone before they run out of higher priced, high memory capacity iPhones. ATT ran out of 16GB iPhone 6 and 6plus but still had 64GB and 128GB models in all colors by 11AM on release day. . . By 3PM, they only had a few 128GB in stock.

This rule does not apply because Apple products are designed with numbskulls and techn-phobes in mind such as global warmists, women, gays, thespians, hipsters and confirmed urbanites

Swordmaker's and Kathy's proposed diagnosis for the new ICD-10 addenda:

90210 iOS Munchausen's Apple-Plexy Syndrome (MAPS), The overwhelming compulsion to post negative, judgmental, aggressive, and false commentary on any website thread related to Apple products wherever found, including phobic reaction to projected Apple user euphoria. First and subsequent encounters.

Hmmm...Which category does Rush Limbaugh fit under? I guess he might be a thespian of a sort. I like MacOS, Windows and Linux, with different roles for each (mixed feelings about iOS. HATE Android). I know a highly intelligent Thomistic philosophy professor at Ave Maria who used to sell Macs at the CompUSA (Philosophy gigs are hard to come by).

The problem is categorizing types of people based on preferred hardware, OS, or design has the same problems as people who use ownership of same as a badge of superiority. Sometimes a computer or a phone is just a computer or a phone.

If i remember correctly the Commodore 64 after the OS was installed had around 35k left over for programs.

You should have tried programing the Commodore Vic-20. It had only 3.7K free of the 5K RAM it shipped with. I wrote a machine language Roulette Wheel program for our lodge's Charity Casino Night. The program Roulette Wheel, which simulated the spinning of the wheel by flashing the numbers and appropriate red, black, or green colors on the screen (the Vic-20 graphic weren't up to showing an animated wheel), and added the whirring and bouncing sound of the ball, appropriately slowing flashing, with randomly slowing bounces, and then settling on a random number between 1 and 36, or 0, and 00, ( the hardest thing to do on the Vic-20 was to generate a really random number) and then display it on the screen in big block numerals on a background of the appropriate color.

When I finished writing the program, there was ONE byte of free memory left! I tried something else that used that free byte, and the program would not run! Get the free byte back and it would run. LOL!

My Vic-20 and the computericed Roulette Wheel were the hit of the Casino Night, making more money for the charity than the REAL Roulette Wheel they rented. Computers were a novelty back then. . .

A needed correction to what you typed. I updated my Iphone 5 to Version 8.1.2 two days ago. I did it while plugged into Itunes. It still required the 4GB of free space on the Iphone. I had to copy a lot of stuff off of the Iphone and make the space. Even while pluggd into Itunes and while taking the update through Itunes.

That should not have happened that way. Your iPhone should have synced, done the update, then re-synced your data. Is that how you did it?

Yeah!! Go for the deep pockets! Now that you mention it, I was woefully abused by my Sinclair Z81, too. Wonder if they have any money left n the bank.

I had the Timex 1000 version with twice the RAM of the Sinclair for the same price. Did you pop for the 16K RAM expansion module, too? IIRC, when you plugged that 16K module in, you didn't have 18K of RAM available, you had only the 16K module to use as it switched out the onboard RAM. Can I sue for that?

I was just FORCED to buy a new Ipad from these crooks. As I downloaded the new Ios it would get to 98% then lock up. Took it to the Apple store and suddenly I have a hardware problem they cannot fix. The thing worked great until I attempted to install the upgrade and now it has a hardware problem! It is only 1.5 years old. Can you say SCAM?

No, I can't say "SCAM." First of all, they did not force you to do anything. Did they point a gun to your head and take the money out of your pocket? Secondly, if this happened, you bought a product with a ONE YEAR warranty, Which failed after a year and a half. The warranty is void. Millions of iPad users have upgraded to iOS versions with absolutely ZERO problems. Yours may have failed. . . but your description of Apple "forcing you to buy a new iPad" just doesn't ring true or sound like the experiences other owners report from their interactions with Apple customer service. It certainly does not rise to the level of a scam. Frankly, you match the standard pattern of an Anti-Apple troll. I may be wrong, but that's what I see.

Thanks. . . not on the defense, but I could perhaps be an expert witness.

I disagree. The gigs are easy. There are loads of mountain tops. . . a lot with caves to live in. The real hard part is getting fawning proselytes to climb the mountain to ask deep questions and sit at your feet, listening to you expound your philosophy and PAY you for it. That's why the wise philosophers keep the day jobs at CompUSA and MacDonalds. . .

Or they become Science Fiction writers. . .

Knowing him, he probably dispensed philosophy at the CompUSA to some poor palooka asking about a USB modem. Good philosophy instruction and guidance is well worth the money. Many of the philosophy majors I know went on to graduate school in mathematics or into IT, where they flourished. Western philosophy is the foundation western civilization, and the Founding Fathers were well-versed in it. Don’t confuse it with the nihilistic and relativistic garbage that passes for philosophy in many of today’s institutions.

This is one of the silliest things I’ve ever seen. Plaintiffs should have to pay Apple’s expenses for this lawsuit after they are laughed out of court.

Yep... I was going to take the upgrade over wifi and it wouldn't do it because the Iphone was to full. So I plugged it into the computer and started Itunes. Itunes prompted me for the upgrade of the Iphone and I initiated it within Itunes. It backed up my Iphone but then it stopped and said the Iphone did not have enough free space. The backup was successful, but it did not matter. The Iphone still needs the space on it.

I had to create the space on the Iphone.... and then I was able to take the upgrade through Itunes.

It doesn't matter whether you are plugged into Itunes and taking the upgrade through the Itunes app...or through the wifi.... It requires the space available. My wife's updated through wifi... she has lots of free space.

Your fellow freeper could mail you his ailing ipad XXX whatever and you could fix it. Put in a larger SSD and new battery for him while you are at it, just charging him for parts. Now this would be a real testimonial to the shared vision of Steve Jobs, Barack Obama and Tim Cooks.

Odd, I upgraded the iPhone 5s of one of the dentists at my office who has only 1GB free. . . I did not run into that. Updated using RAM and HD space on the computer. What took fifteen-twenty minutes to do on my iPhone 6 and 30 minutes on my daughter's iPhone 5s, was done in about 8 minutes on the office iMac. It synced the changed things and the installed the update. No re-syncing required. He had less available storage after because iOS 8.1.2 takes more space than iOS did by about 500MB, so I archived a lot of old videos he had on there, and deleted a lot of Apps that were not being used. Got him back over 4GBs.

I wonder what the difference is between my experience and yours. Itunes is supposed to use the computer's resources for processing the update, not the iPhone's. I used an IMac with 8GB of RAM available and lots of free HD space, and the latest revision of iTunes. What's your configuration? Anyone else run into this situation?

The single most useful class I took in college, and later tutored in, was in the department of Philosophy. That class was Logic. It should be a required course for every college student, if not taught in secondary education. That course is why so many Philosophy students thrived in mathematics or IT.
