On the New York City subway, Bernhard Goetz, a 45-year-old white male, shoots four young black men after they surround him and ask for $5. After wounding three of the unarmed men, Goetz pointed his gun at 18-year-old Darrell Cabey, who was not wounded but cowering terrified in the subway car, and said, "You don't look too bad, here's another." Goetz then shot Cabey in the back, severing his spinal cord. Three of the youths recovered, but Cabey was paralyzed and suffered permanent brain damage.

It always bugs me when media outlets claim that the thugs “asked him for $5”. Like they walked up and politely asked him- it was a mugging. The NY Daily News pushes the same “asked him for money” angle.

I worked with a couple of guys that went to a ham radio/electronics fest in NH (1980s), and Goetz was walking around. “Strange looking guy” they commented at lunch that following Monday.

Revisionist history. Those “unarmed men” had and USED screwdrivers as weapons to attack, threaten and terrorist subway riders with impunity. On that particular day they just happened to choose an easy mark who decided to exercise his natural, God-given, civil, Constitutionally protected HUMAN right to keep and bear arms and stop the threat to his person.
Goetz is an American hero. God bless him.
Hate to be an @$$ but I read that Cabey was the only one that did not go on to live a continuous life of crime.
There is a larger problem than vigilantism going on here.
I saw a TV News recreation of the incident years ago shortly after it happened. They hired neat non-threatening young black men to play the role of the thugs, dressed them in white coveralls so as to appear non-threatening, had them merely walk silently towards the news caster reprising the role of Bernard Goetz, doing nothing threatening, and then having the News Caster pretending to shoot them.
The whole effort was to make it look like Bernard Goetz was an out of control lunatic with a gun and he totally just shot a bunch of innocent young men.
I thought it was bizarrely biased at the time, and in the years since I have come to realize that everyone who provides the nation with "news" is pretty much a Liberal Democrat Union member who lives in New York City and hates everything conservatives think and believe.
The one party media are currently the greatest threat facing this nation. All this other crap we are experiencing now is the consequence of us allowing one party control of the news and information systems.
N.Y. under DeBlah will lose loads of tourista dollars.
I know I won’t go there now.
