Whether or not we are dealing with the mentally ill properly, or are a generation of pussies.

Bronies. Grown men with associated homosexual/pedophillic tendencies. I've met several in my travels, and they're (to put it kindly) unstable people.

The wussification of America goes on.

Other people who were smaller, or had any interests outside the mainstream, they always said high-school was miserable.

Yep. If you were different or vulnerable you were a target. That was true when I was in grade/high school and I'm sure that it's true now.

Yes and no.

I agree with your general assessment.

Actually, high school for me was great. It was PRIOR that was torture. I was too “ugly”, not to mention tall and not a normal girl.

I guess my wonderful family, and a couple good neighbor friends, helped me through. By high school, I thought “hell with them if they don’t like me”, and had a great time MAKING friends because I wasn’t so hung up on not being poked at. No longer really inhibited or intimidated. And yes, I befriended the “little funny” people, too, as well as hipper people. But really was never friends with the popular people.

I saw a “Brony” in an Ohio McDonalds a few months ago.
Sitting there, alone, in a booth, reading a MLP comic, wearing a “Brony” had and wearing a MLP t-shirt. He was 30-something, overweight with outgrown hair and beard. Sad.

My daughters love to watch MLP and I watch with them so I can heckle the screen, ala MST3K. Even they were laughing at the dude.

We do not need to accept everything, but there’s no need to be cruel about it, either.

You are condoning your children making fun of people? Open disrespect for adults?

For me, this is a very delicate topic."Doesn’t that deserve a little bullying?"

As someone who was mercilessly bullied all through my school years, no, I don't believe any bullying is "deserved" in any way shape or form. However, I also don't subscribe to the current anti-bullying campaign nonsense as the "cure all".

I was into just about anything and everything a boy growing up in the 60s-70s should have been. Had nothing to do with girl toys/cartoons being a sissy or whatever...the bullies needed a target and I became "it".

Regardless of whether or not you agree, those doing the bullying have no concept/idea of just how much their actions/words affect the recipient.

To this day, if I were to see my tormentors, I'd probably come close to killing them...as much as I've tried to let these things go, it's still for naught.

This young man obviously had some issues to begin with in gravitating towards ponies.

But at the same time, folks could say that I have issues because I mountain bike, shoot guns, play airsoft, build models, play computer games, etc.

Did it teach me something about human nature? Sure. I learned that there are people with absolutely no compassion, there are cheerleaders, there are tacit supporters, enablers, etc. to this kind of behavior because they lack the courage to shut this kind of thing down.

They are the "pussies" in our society, not the victims of bullying.

I do not get it.

Not too many times do I hear about “calling out sissyness” and “defending the retarded” in the same culture.

I have not once witnessed kind consideration for retarded (or the like) from “kids” coupled with making fun of “normal” guys who go outside the norm. Usually there is zero compassion, period.

And guys are not the only ones who suffer from taunting. Seems everyone is focused on that.

We laughed at him as we were heading back to the car.

But, yes.
When they see somebody acting intentionally pathetic, their reactions are theirs. Tolerance isn’t always warranted.

Maybe I should have had them go up and comfort the pussy?

‘I also don’t subscribe to the current anti-bullying campaign nonsense as the “cure all”.’

Agreed - the problem is they define EVERYthing as “bullying”. Bullying is different from just being made fun of. I had it all. Very little outright “bullying” though. LOTS of constant harassment and taunting and exclusion.

I turned around and started doing the same thing with some other girls when I went to middle school. Except that was more in secret - I still got tortured by most, while secretly picking on some others (i.e., wasn’t audacious enough to actually taunt them in person). I got out of that in high school.

It’s not just you guys, BTW.

And alot had to do with how you look. Not what you do. THAT is how cruel kids are.

No, one should NEVER condone disrespect by kids, period. I do not care what their issues are, unless they are criminals, perhaps (tolerance? Can’t have any for a passing stranger who just seems different?). Poor leading by example.

To a point, true.

However, as a Scout leader, I’ve engaged with quite a few effeminate young boys who required guidance, coaching and mentoring to help see them through their trials, not treating them like a pariah or sissy.

This is also my way of helping myself deal with the way I was treated by bullies. Helping these kids bridge that time in their lives when they are vulnerable.

It doesn’t have to be a “brutal process for the weak” and for some, it is anything but “an effective way to form social norms”.
