Like I said. No Empire to speak of. Just a few sausage factories scattered here and there. Nothing that would justify building a huge navy to protect. Britain had a huge navy but a tiny army. The fleet was the cornerstone of Britain’s national security in both a physical and a psychological sense, and building up a baby to match ours was always going to set US on a collision course, and the Germans knew it, but pursued their plan anyway.
