In a speech at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Thursday night, President Obama did not mention Jesus by name but said the meaning of Jesuss story is embraced by all people around the world, regardless of how they pray, or whether they pray at all.
But while lighting the tree has entered into the 21st century, the story that we remember this season dates back more than 2,000 years, Obama said.
Its the story of hopethe birth of a singular child into the simplest of circumstancesa child who would grow up to live a life of humility, and kindness, and compassion; who traveled with a message of empathy and understanding; who taught us to care for the poor, and the marginalized, and those who are different from ourselves, said Obama. And more than two millennia later, the way he lived still compels us to do our best to build a more just and tolerant and decent world.

The story of Jesus, as a community organizer. Barf!
While what Obama says in the exerpt is true he leaves out the most important thing - the Gospel. That Jesus lived a perfect life, was crucified and died for our sins, was buried and rose from the dead. Paul said the message he preached was Christ and him crucified.
um, I don’t think the muslims believe in the “meaning of Jesus” or they wouldn’t be crucifying, raping, stoning, enslaving and beheading his followers
obama is such an azz
If Obama says embraced by all Christians around the world,it makes sense
Bt what he actually said is nonsense. -tom
No, it’s not true. Every good charitable deed he mentioned there is what he intends government to do, and thus pervert. And did you not notice what he meant by “those who are different from ourselves”, never mind “more just and tolerant and decent world”?
The Gospel’s most important message is the pending arrival of the Kingdom of God, incidentally, with Jesus as its King (Mark 1:15).
Obama probably thought he was talking about himself.
They certainly believe in the meaning of the Jesus of the Koran, who is far different from the figure in the Gospels.
Except for giving a shout out to the followers of moo-ham-ed.
“Don’t de-head me bro!”
He’s actually being candid about it, never mind promulgating his own bizarre false gospel. Back to false messiah mode?
That is the impression he’s giving here. Certainly he would not be shy about describing himself as “a singular child (born) into the simplest of circumstances”.
Again,Mr. Obama proves to be insufficient & irrelevant. He dances all around the meaning of Jesus’ life without considering the real truth of it;the message of Salvation through Him.
What, that “charter of negative liberties”? Does it burn him like a crucifix burns a vampire?
How about the message of division? (”I came to bring a sword,”) Who promised to pit brother against brother?
From Golfer-in-Chief to Theologian-in-Chief all in one fell swoop, all mediocre at best.
Its the story of hopethe birth of a singular child into the simplest of circumstancesa child who would grow up to live a life of humility, and kindness, and compassion; who traveled with a message of empathy and understanding; who taught us to care for the poor, and the marginalized, and
a man who would become President only six years ago,
He’s nothing if not humble..../s
Then why can’t we have nativity scenes in public places without lawsuits? How come it is ok for our US military chaplains to say “God” but not say “Jesus”?
I wasn't attempting to divine what Obama "meant" but was just commenting on the words he spoke. He may very well have had the ulterior motives you suggest but his words did describe biblical aspects of Jesus. Jesus did teach to love "those who are different from ourselves." - that was much the point of the parable of the Good Samaritan. We are to love our neighbors and our neighbors even include those different from ourselves. This is, however, an individual obligation not a government imposed duty accomplished by forced redistribution. Socialism is just a form of coveting.
