Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul hinted in an interview Friday that he smoked marijuana in his youth, adding that voters should not confuse his push for reduced criminal penalties for drug offenses as an endorsement of drug use. […]

“I think drugs, marijuana included, aren’t good for you,” Paul said. “I don’t want to be someone who is seen as being this person advocating for drug use. I think they’re not a good idea.” […]

Paul told WHAS he has focused on reducing criminal penalties for some nonviolent drug offenses, which he said have been administered unfairly and disproportionally (sic) impact the nation’s minorities.

He noted that the past three presidents “either admitted or skirted around the issue” of using illegal drugs in their youth. …

If only youth drank more hard booze than smoking weed things would be different.

Pot can be addictive and can create symptoms comparable to those of bipolar disorder.

It is a serious drug.

But should it be illegal is a different question.

Yes, it should be discouraged and the truth should be told about it.

But going to prison for possession is not the right way to get rid of this poison IMHO.

Alcohol has served Western man very well for thousands of years, as they refused Cannabis as an intoxicant, even in the days of Greece, and the Crusades.

And there you have it. Alcohol has only killed three of my family. I’m still waiting for someone smoking weeds to kill one of my family so I can get angry.

True. You drink and fight a bit until you realize (unless you are a numbskull) that you don't particularly want to do those things much anymore.

Dope smokers start and end at not particularly wanting to do anything much at all.

I thought he meant the Walrus.

Me too. Paul McCartney apologetic about smoking pot. That would've been the surprise of the day.

Pot is not physically addictive

It kills brain cells, makes some people lazy and forgetful, and others paranoid.

Very few people go to jail for possession, but now that certain states have de facto legalized use, lots more potheads will be created and they will be demanding government handouts .

Coke is not physically addictive either...but it is psychologically addictive (as is pot).

Both can destroy lives.

I reckon not. The ability to see the bigger future picture is more pertinent than anecdotal relics of the past. In a perfect world, humans would not even exist.

Hanging Witches and Refer Madness have much in common.

Understood, but November Foxtrot Lima.

No sooner than I would promote banning self defense in a country like England where your reference to “Western World” predates America.

It is quite possible I am stressing that kids drinking booze and causing trouble is a big problem.

I really can’t add to that since two negatives would leave a positive result.

Let us at least agree that one of us does not understand the other and let X = X.
