WOW!!! Riley was not even mentioned as a possible replacement for Bo. Also, supposedly after being rehired by Oregon State when he was fired from the Chargers he vowed to stay there as long as Oregon State wanted him.

This is too bad for Oregon State. Riley in his two stints as HC and Dennis Erickson in between had significantly improved the quality of football at OSU.

I thought Nebraska alum Scott Frost and current OC at Oregon would be the hire.

So much for ESPN’s Dari Nowkhah’s “very reliable source” who said that Pitt’s Paul Chryst would be the choice.

I wish Riley the best of luck. Getting this program beyond the “9 wins per season” hump will be difficult. A few wins against quality opponents will be a sign of progress.

...OSU has reached its ceiling...and moving upwards on the job chain hardly constitutes ‘forsaking’...

14 years at OSU, now 61 years old, had previously indicated his enjoyment there and intent to stay, had recently turned down the USC head coaching job. Never thought he’d forsake OSU.
