"African Americans"?
me | me

Posted on 12/03/2014 8:34:38 AM PST by Doctor 2Brains

Even the world's most hard-core, fire-breathing conservatives have me baffled. I'll paraphrase John Stossel in harsher language than he used (no conservative he, but he did address the issue) "If you use the term 'African American' you are either gutless or stupid. Gutless because you are afraid to "offend" those looking to be offended, stupid because you've not stopped to ask yourself what the hell this new term is all about."

Why do SO MANY conservatives, even here on this site and even Rush Limbaugh, use this term?

Blacks invented the term to wield power over nonblacks. If I force you to call me by some regal-sounding, magisterial title with 10,000 syllables, then I am wielding power over you. Period.

On the day that I demand to be called a European American of Caucasoid Descent with Scotch/Irish Roots (Roots? Get it? That's funny!) then I'll start using the AA term.

Just how low must you bow when using the term AA, and are you allowed to look the AA in the face when speaking to him?

I mean, I do realize that "they" were surveying the building sites of the pyramids they built from the gliders they invented thousands of years ago, while lowly whites were still stabbing each other over grubs in the forest, but come on!

A truly BS expression. Like saying European-Americans.

Here’s another expression I utterly detest: people of color.

If we’re going to use that one, just call them colored people IMHO.

It’s a ridiculous phrase. I never use it. Some are so brain dead that use it to describe any black, even if not from America. I recall some mediot referring to Mandela as an “African American.”

Why do Rush and so many others use the term? I honestly can think only gutless and/or stupid. But Rush is neither of these. If John Stossel can avoid the term, why not Rush?

Yep. They are Americans of African descent. The emphasis needs to be placed on “Americans”.
I grew up hearing about the US being “The Melting Pot”. When we think of ourselves as Americans, we are strong. When we think of ourselves as a bunch of different tribes, then we become weak in the eyes of other nations.

I prefer the Brunnerism; “Aframs.”

I have another theory. Liberals and mediots in particular love to hear the sound of their own voices. Thus, the more syllables the better. So “African American” is seven times better than “black.” This phenomenon also is manifested in “the city of Philadelphia” instead of just “Philadelphia” or the “state of Louisiana” instead of “Louisiana.”

“The Commonwealth of Massachusetts” certainly qualifies.

But why do Rush and people on this forum use the term? It’s driving me nuts.

Well. That’s a question you would have to ask RL.

Unfortunately the term African-American is now so deeply embedded into our culture, society, and lexicon it is now widely accepted. Not that I approve it.

There are many things now culturally acceptable that I don’t like including tattoos, piercings, wearing your trousers half way down your rear end....many many many things about the current culture. I could go on all day on this topic.
